Liverpool ready to swap Curtis Jones for new midfielder
Liverpool have got some transfer questions to answer in midfield this summer.
The Reds had been relying on the same cast of midfield options for a couple of seasons. And in the 2025/26 campaign they got diminishing returns from some of them.
Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch were beneath their Premier League title-winning best form. And it’s led to speculation that there could be a midfield shake-up coming.
Several LFC midfielders linked with exit
Harvey Elliott, Stefan Bajcetic and even Curtis Jones have been linked with the exit door. All three each have a year left on their deals and as things stand new contracts are not expected.
Elliott will be given a chance in preseason but clubs in the Premier League and Bundesliga could come forward with interest and test Richard Hughes’ resolve. Last week it emerged that Bajcetic was closing in on a deal with Sevilla.
It is 25-year-old Jones who is emerging as a key player in the midfield summer transfer market.
Curtis Jones departure now key to Liverpool midfielder signing
Inter Milan have been keen on adding the England midfielder since January - but have not yet raised their bid sufficiently to satisfy Liverpool’s orders.
A new offer is expected in the coming days - per various reports - and that will in turn give the Reds a decision to make.
Because if Jones is sold then we WILL see Liverpool move for another midfielder.
That’s according to a report in TEAMtalk - which claims the chances of the outgoing Premier League champions signing a new midfielder weigh heavily on what’s going to happen over Jones.
Jones out, new midfielder in
“The club are currently comfortable with their midfield options if Jones remains at Anfield and, as things stand, signing another central midfielder is not viewed as a priority,” the report reads.
“However, should Jones depart before the transfer window closes, Liverpool are expected to enter the market for a replacement.
“Essentially, the situation is as follows – if Jones goes, Liverpool will sign a new midfielder, but if he stays, they won’t.”
Liverpool have been linked with moves for the likes of Adam Wharton, Alex Scott and Manu Kone. But maybe we shouldn’t expect Richard Hughes or Andoni Iraola to move for a new midfielder until Jones’ future is sorted out.
It doesn’t look like Liverpool will be ADDING to their midfield options this summer - rather it will be a case of swapping one for another with Jones heading out.
