Liverpool ready to make £83m offer for midfielder who is 'not normal'
Andoni Iraola still has a lot of work to do on his Liverpool squad.
At the moment, the Reds are fifth in the Premier League table and are currently nine points adrift of first-placed Arsenal.
After the performances of both teams last season, it's clear to see why the gap between both clubs is so large.
However, with the appointment of Iraola and the extra £150 million that was spent on new players by Liverpool this summer, fans thought that things could end up being different this season.
But, now that we're just a few months in, it's clear that more change is needed and that the Anfield outfit need to dip their toes into the January transfer market when that chance arises.
Liverpool prepare £83 million offer for Federico Valverde
Liverpool's midfield is probably their main area that needs upgrading.
At the moment, Trey Nyoni and Alexis Mac Allister are their two best-performing central midfielders and, since Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch can't play alongside one another in the double pivot, some serious questions are being asked.
The fact that Szoboszlai and Gravenberch have just been handed new long-term deals also throws a major spanner into the works.
However, after the first few months of the 2026-27 season, it's clear that Liverpool's recruitment team also see their midfielder as a major problem with Spanish outlet Fichajes now sharing that the Reds are "preparing" an £83 million offer for Real Madrid's Federico Valverde.
"Liverpool are interested in signing Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde and are preparing a €100 million offer to secure his transfer in the upcoming summer transfer window," they wrote.
"Liverpool's primary target is a midfielder who can fill the void left by Alexis Mac Allister."
Federico Valverde would be a game-changing signing for Liverpool
Although Valverde's best position is as a central midfielder, Jose Mourinho has been using him as more of a right-back this season.
Real Madrid may have signed Trent Alexander-Arnold and Denzel Dumfries to cover right-back over the last couple of transfer windows but, after their recent performances, it's clear that the Special One isn't happy.
So, that's why Valverde has been used there instead.
This sort of versatility is key and is one of the main things that Liverpool seem to be looking for in their new recruits.
And, since his teammates have constantly lauded him throughout his career with Guille Varela even calling his performances "not normal," it's clear that he'd be a top signing for any club.
Indeed, £83 million is a lot for one player but, when Bradley Barcola and Alexander Isak cost Liverpool a combined total of £248 million, it's clear that transfer fees are going to continue to sky rocket.
Here's hoping Liverpool don't splash all their cash at once.
