Liverpool preparing for outrageous transfer, refuse to give up on historic deal

Liverpool simply won't give up on an outrageous transfer. They're pushing for a truly historic deal - one unseen possibly ever.

Liverpool are in the market for a new centre-back. They don’t really have a choice in that because they’re currently set to lose three of their five senior options.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez are both out of contract in the summer, and we’re not confident at all that they’ll sign new deals. Van Dijk feels more likely but he’ll be turning 36 - Liverpool don’t like dishing out big-money contracts to players over 30, let alone over 35.

Ronald Araujo, another senior option, isn’t a permanent player, either. He’ll return to Barcelona as things stand and that means Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni are the only centre-backs guaranteed to be here in 2026/27 and one of those hasn’t played football in over a year.

So Liverpool naturally need to move for someone. And it appears they’re refusing to give up on a near-impossible target.

Liverpool still want Jarrad Branthwaite

Football Insider reports that Liverpool remain interested in Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite. The defender has been linked with the Reds off and on for years now.

Of course, the report also mentioned Manchester United - another club constantly linked with a move. And while Branthwaite maybe doesn’t have quite the reputation that he had a couple of years ago, primarily because of injury, he’s still undoubtedly one of the top English centre-backs potentially available.

However, there’s always that one problem with links like this. Liverpool may retain an interest, they can maintain all the interest in the world, but they’re not getting him.

Everton don’t sell to Liverpool. The Reds actually tried to sign Romelu Lukaku from them back in 2015 and the idea wasn’t even semi-entertained by the Blue side of the city.

So no, we can’t imagine for a moment that Everton would sell to Liverpool. They’d rather sell to United for less, if we’re honest.
