Liverpool now eye Valentin Barco as Andy Robertson successor
Liverpool are now reportedly in the race for Boca Juniors left-back Valentin Barco. The Argentine is a massive prospect.
This comes from Calciomercato. The Italian outlet claims Liverpool are now expected in the race for left-back Valentin Barco - a race that continues to heat up.
They're reporting on Juventus's own interest. The Italians aren't put off by the competition for Barco, it seems, with Liverpool the only threat mentioned by name.
But there has been plenty of talk around Barco this year. Goal mentioned both Brighton and Manchester City back in September, while 90min had Chelsea down as entering the race in October.
Now there's talk of Liverpool - and it would be surprising if the Reds weren't having a look.
Barco is making a serious name for himself in Argentina right now. He's broken through at Boca Juniors despite still being a teenager while impressing both going forward and defensively.
Per Fbref, he's averaging two tackles per 90 and also helping to create around two shots per 90. On top of that, you can expect him to accurately deliver the ball into the penalty area at least once a game, while he consistently breaks into the final third.
All in all, the raw talent is there for a fantastic left-back. It's exactly what Liverpool will be looking for long-term, too, as they hunt down Andy Robertson's successor.
The Scot will almost certainly go down as the club's greatest-ever left-back and one of the very best English football has seen. But, naturally, he's not going to be an elite player forever.
Barco, at 19, is one of the brightest prospects in the position. Liverpool almost certainly have their eyes on him as a result - but we'll have to wait and see what comes of it. Fans can expect to hear a lot more of the name over the next year, though.
