Liverpool hit major roadblock in pursuit of 'incredible' attacker

Liverpool's attack was one of their main areas of focus in the summer transfer window.

Mohamed Salah chose to terminate his contract with the Reds a year early and, most of Arne Slot's players who he had at his disposal last term failed to live up to expectations.

So, this led fans to believe that an entire rebuild of their first-team squad was on the way.

However, that was far from the case as only four new players were brought in.

Indeed, two of these were attackers and, even though they've both done well so far, it's clear that more change is needed if Liverpool want to get back to the top and start competing for silverware again.

That's why, even though the transfer window is shut that the rumour mill is still turning about potential players that Liverpool could target with one potential now looking likely to be chalked off.

Michael Olise doesn't want to return to the Premier League

The 2025-26 season was easily the best of Michael Olise's career.

The Frenchman contributed to 53 goals across all competitions with the vast majority of his appearances coming as a right-winger.

Before Yan Diomande and Bradley Barcola were even linked with Liverpool, Olise was being talked up as a potential option for them to explore.

However, due to his importance to Bayern Munich, there was no way that they'd have let the attacker go.

This made Liverpool think about other targets and resulted in Barcola being brought in.

But, since the Reds still don't have a natural right-winger among their ranks, they're still on the lookout for some reinforcement.

And, once again, it looks like they're going to have to look away from Olise as he's now decided that he doesn't want to return to England any time soon, according to a new report from TEAMtalk.

"Michael Olise is in no hurry to return to the Premier League amid fresh reports suggesting a blockbuster move to Liverpool could be on, with sources close to the French superstar telling TEAMtalk that his next move is more likely to take him to Spain than back to England," they wrote.

"The 24-year-old has never ruled out playing in England again during his career after spending three years at Crystal Palace, but TEAMtalk understands there is currently little appetite from Olise to make a Premier League return.

"TEAMtalk revealed earlier this summer that Liverpool had asked about Olise as they viewed the Frenchman as the ‘perfect’ replacement for Mohamed Salah.

"Those links have resurfaced in the last few days after Sky Sports revealed that Bayern Munich are looking to bring Olmo back to the Bundesliga from Barcelona, with the German giants keen to ensure they are covered should Olise be sold off.

"However, neither Bayern nor Olise showed any interest in the possibility of a move, leaving Liverpool to eventually pivot towards Bradley Barcola after also missing out on Yan Diomande."

Michael Olise would be the perfect player for Liverpool to sign

Obviously, no matter how hard Liverpool try, they'll never be able to replace Salah.

The Egyptian King was their main attacking outlet for years with his 50 + goal contributions in the 2024-25 season key to Liverpool winning the Premier League title.

Admittedly, he was nowhere near his best last term but, the fact that he still managed to get 22 goal contributions across all competitions proves how pivotal he was.

Liverpool have obviously tried the method of signing multiple attackers to cover Salah's absence but, since there's no right-winger at the club, there's always going to be at least one person being played out of position.

This is why Olise would be perfect for them. Not only is he a natural right-winger but, he was also one of Bayern's highest goal scorers and he was almost certainly one of their most important players.

Of course, any potential deal would cost Liverpool a hefty chunk of change but, of all the attacker that they've been linked with recently, the "incredible" Frenchman is still the stand-out candidate, even if he would cost an arm and a leg.
