Liverpool have just avoided another major headache

With Liverpool being one of the world's most recognisable clubs, they're often in the media's spotlight.

Whether it's about who their next manager is going to be or which player they're going to sign, whenever there's a story to be shared about the Anfield outfit, every single media company gets on it and shares it.

And, while all of this coverage is good, it does mean that fans are often left disappointed as transfer links or rumours to emerge from Anfield don't always come true.

But, recently, the Reds' fanbase have been treated to a fair few signings with over £500 million being spent over the last two seasons.

However, with all this spending, plenty of change has been afoot and, although some is bad, most of it is good and, for Liverpool, it feels like they have have just managed to avoid another major headache after what's just happened at Anfield.

Richard Hughes' Liverpool exit is a blessing in disguise for them

Richard Hughes has obviously been the man at the centre of all Liverpool's negotiations over the past couple of years.

The sporting director oversaw the Anfield outfit break their club-record transfer fee twice in the 2025-26 summer window while also allowing players such as Ibrahima Konate and Trent Alexander-Arnold to leave for nothing.

Indeed, the search for a new sporting director will be tough for Liverpool but, with the new generation of players that are coming through, it certainly feels like a brand new era is on its way to Anfield.

Even though Hughes has managed to break Liverpool's transfer record a couple of times, after their performances last season, it genuinely felt like they performed better before their £450 million spend.

Of course, injuries and a lack of confidence won't have helped matters much but, with Hughes now gone, it does feel like something different is coming to Anfield.

Obviously, there are still some huge gaps in their squad with their midfield being a particular area of concern.

And, since Hughes has now packed his bags and left, a new sporting director with a different outlook on transfers will be on their way in which could finally mean that Liverpool's midfield will get upgraded.

Liverpool signing new midfielders should be their main priority

Even though both Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch have just signed new deals to extend their stays with Liverpool, it's clear that some new players still need to be brought in.

At the moment, Trey Nyoni seems destined to play a prominent role among Iraola's first-team squad and, while that'll do wonders for his future development, Liverpool should really have a better option to choose from than the 18-year-old.

Of course, Szoboszlai, Gravenberch and even Alexis Mac Allister all deserve to start for Liverpool but, if they're wanting to keep up with their rivals such as Manchester City, change needs to be welcomed.

Someone such as Lamine Camara would be a perfect acquisition for Liverpool as, not only is he still fairly young but, he's now also seen as one of the best central midfielders in Ligue 1.

The fact that he's also a natural number six is another reason why he's perfect for Liverpool.

Indeed, there are many other options for Liverpool to explore on the market and, with their new sporting director set to join any time soon, there's plenty of hope that change is coming to Anfield, perhaps even as soon as January.

So, while it is a pain that Hughes has left, in the grand scheme of things, it could actually be the best thing to happen to the club.
