Liverpool have done it, they've signed their next Steven Gerrard

Liverpool have their next Steven Gerrard, the Reds have finally done it.

For over a decade, and even before that, there's been a void at Anfield.

Liverpool fans fell in love with Gerrard because it was easy to. He was Mr Liverpool. He represented everything great about the club.

Gerrard was not only an incredible footballer but he had an insatiable work ethic. He had this never-say-die attitude and he was capable of lifting the team to greater and greater heights.

Without him, there's no Istanbul, there's no FA Cup final triumph over West Ham. Gerrard was simply one of a kind. The generational player who will go down in the history books as one of the greatest, if not the greatest to ever play for the Reds.

The second-coming of Gerrard

Over the years, we've seen a lot of players being heralded as the next Gerrard. Particularly within the club's academy.

Even prior to Gerrard's retirement, players were given the label, and set unfair expectations.

Jay Spearing was one of the first, but others like Jordan Lussey, Conor Coady, Adam Phillips, Herbie Kane and Jordan Rossiter were also described in the same vein.

None of them were able to live up to the expectations.

The one who came the closest was Curtis Jones but even his achievements cannot lace what Gerrard achieved at Anfield. Especially now that Jones is at Inter Milan.

But there is someone who is finally living up to his legacy.

Dominik Szoboszlai is becoming Liverpool's next Gerrard and the stats prove it

The Hungarian is on his way to wearing the captain's armband for the Reds and with the no.8 shirt on his back, he is very truly living up to the Gerrard comparisons.

From scoring last-minute penalties, to crucial goals in the Champions League and absolute worldies, Szoboszlai's latest goal against Tottenham was his most Gerrard-esque moment yet.

The strike was insane. He hit the ball so cleanly. From that range, it's outrageous to be scoring a goal like that.

It means he now has 57 goal contributions from midfield in his first 153 matches for Liverpool. Gerrard managed 51 in his first 193 games.

Obviously, Gerrard starter his career at a much younger age and didn't hit his prime until he was 25-26 - exactly the age Szoboszlai is at the moment.

And well it looks like he is hitting his prime right now.
