Liverpool gifted chance to secure £73m discount before January

Liverpool's start to the season has left many supporters confused about the direction of the team.

The summer saw a change in management, with Andoni Iraola taking the reins at Anfield, and the Reds have somewhat struggled to deliver so far under the Spaniard.

The players' abilities to battle adversity on the pitch seems to have improved since Arne Slot's tenure, but the squad still looks incomplete and there is work to be done in the January window.

After another massive outlay in the summer, budget constraints could restrict the Reds' winter window, but a £75 million discount could be the perfect business for Iraola's team.

Liverpool can finally sign £73 million attacker five years on

Jadon Sancho is a name that once would have had many of the Anfield faithful excited, but the Englishman's career has veered off the astronomical path it was on only five years ago.

When the then 21-year-old left Borussia Dortmund in 2021, Liverpool were heavily rumoured to be interested in a move for the winger – with Jurgen Klopp reported to be a big admirer.

The Englishman opted to join Manchester United for £73 million that summer however, and now after a couple of disappointing seasons at Old Trafford and three loan moves away from The Red Devils the 26-year-old finds himself as a free agent.

Now, faced with a lack of attacking options in the squad, it could make sense for Iraola to bring in the man that Liverpool almost signed for £73 million for free.

Sancho made 39 appearances for Aston Villa last season, helping them to a Europa League title and a fourth-place finish in the league.

Although the Englishman was far from his best, he was consistently involved at the West Midlands club, being deployed on both the left and right wings.

Liverpool currently lack clear options on the right side of their attack with the solution seemingly being to play other forwards out of position, so the addition of Sancho, who has a wealth of topflight and European experience, would be a very sensible move.

The wingers wage demands have been a stumbling block in negotiations with potential suitors previously, but after a few months out of the game the Reds may be able to tempt the 26-year-old to Anfield on a more appropriate salary.

Sancho would offer some much-needed depth to Iraola's squad, and Anfield could be the perfect place for the Englishman to revive his career.
