The FOUR players who could save their Liverpool careers this month

While the Reds will be ruthless this summer, each of the decisions - regardless of how brutal they may seem - will have a valid reason behind them. It will all make sense in the end.

To some Liverpool fans, that notion might seem incredible alien. Liverpool are so rarely ruthless. A policy of slight favouritism and loyalty was at the heart of the Jurgen Klopp regime.

'Spending only when absolutely necessary' was the doctrine adopted by FSG, who have kept their pursestrings relatively tight during their tenure as club owners, much to the frustration of many onlookers.

But at the end of the day, what we have is Liverpool operating as a successful asset in the precarious and feistily competitive arenas that are the Premier League and European football.

This season might well have been a title-winning one, making it two league successes in the past 35 years, but it is well understood that areas of Arne Slot's side are in desperate need of attention.

£12.5m has been spend across the past three transfer windows, and ahead of this summer you would be fair to assume that almost 20 times that figure will be sanctioned on transfers.

But this new-found ruthless approach will not be without any rational. Players that have demonstrated they are better off playing elsewhere next season will be sent packing, but others who still have something to offer the club will have ample opportunity to showcase their worth.

The last four games of the season represent that chance that the recruitment team is willing to offer them, and four players on the periphery will have to make it count if they want to stay.

Kostas Tsimikas' golden chance to supersede Andy Robertson

Left-back will inevitably have a new face playing in the position next season.

The team's main defensive weakness has been the flanks and regardless of who is fielded there, the same issues have remained. As such, Milos Kerkez is the favourite to join and one of the Reds' current players will need to make way for him.

While Robertson has been one of the club's great servants over the last eight years, he has also been one of the most problematic assets in the side this season.

Nonetheless, he is widely considered to keep his place next season in favour of Tsimikas. I believe that could be a mistake. Here's why.

The Scottish captain is on £160,000 a week according to Capology, and he is contracted until 2026, meaning he will be leaving on a free next season anyway, if Liverpool don't offer him a new deal.

Whereas, Tsimikas is on half his wages - £75,000 a week - and is contracted until 2027, so by keeping the Greek international, you would gain his services for a year longer than services, while saving money. Any new recruitment will need a senior player to occasionally lean on.

So across these next few games, Tsimikas needs to demonstrate why he is worth keeping over Robertson. The decision makes so much sense, yet no one is convinced. He needs to impress.

Harvey Elliott is an invaluable multi-faceted player

Liverpool fans adore young Harvey. He made his debut for the club back in September 2018 at just 16 years old, and his role in the team has only grown from there.

Able to play in midfield and on either wing, he is a multi-faceted gem of a player that club's are desperately seeking out. They aren't just good at one role, they can help the team in a number of ways.

Under Jurgen Klopp, he was a regular first-team player, although his game-time under Arne Slot has been significantly reduced.

However, he has still found a way to make an impact when given minutes. This season he has played just 683 minutes, in part because of an injury that hindered him for three months, but he has four goals and two assists to his name.

Last season, he had four goals and 11 assists, but with 2817 minutes player. If Slot wants to use him, he can be incredibly valuable to us - he's only 22 years old after all.

Despite his unwavering commitment to the team, he is being rumoured of a possible move away and while this might be unlikely, it would be great to see him excel in these last few games if he is given some minutes now that the title has been wrapped up.

Losing Elliott would be a be a tough pill for the fans to swallow.

Diogo Jota still has to offer this Liverpool side

Anfield Watch reported earlier this season that we understand that Jota, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez are all at risk of leaving the club this summer.

On the face of it, that shouldn't be surprising. All three of them have under-performed and subsequently Liverpool fans are losing patience with them.

A plausible destination for the trio is Saudi Arabia, as the Middle Eastern Pro League is still confident in their ability to perform and act as a big name to bring a greater audience to the competition.

With Diaz, a move makes sense because we already have Cody Gakpo available to play at left-wing and the Dutchman has superseded the Colombian. One is very clearly better than the other.

Furthermore, Nunez has had ample opportunity to succeed in this Liverpool team and he has not been able to find the form he once had for Benfica through his three-year stay on Merseyside.

But losing Jota as well, I'm not too sure. When you consider the fact that Federico Chiesa is yet to really make an impact, you're looking to the club potentially replacing 60% of its forward line.

So while this is far from rousing support for him, it feels only right that Liverpool continue to work with one of the trio, even if the decision is merely to keep a little bit of stability in the team.

On his day, he can be a difference maker, and his contract is up in 2027, so there would still be a summer transfer window available for the club to sell him in to get a fee for his services.

All that is needed for this idea to garner support is for him to find a little bit of form in these remaining games. Whether he'll take the opportunity or not is another story, however.

Wataru Endo's grit and determination is unmatched

Bought as a stop-gap transfer two season's ago, Endo has quickly become a fan favourite.

He was the club's makeshift defensive midfielder in Klopp's final season because the club's approaches for Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia were both unsuccessful, and he surpassed all expectations.

To say he was faultless was an understatement, but he held his own when coming up against superior players such as Rodri and Declan Rice, and Liverpool had only paid £16m for him.

Under Arne Slot, the Japanese captain has been sidelined as Ryan Gravenberch has been backed as the long-term asset to command the No. 6 role, but that has not meant Endo has been entirely locked out.

Once the clock strikes 75 minutes, it's time for the 32-year-old to shine.

In the Premier League he has 8.0 fouls per 90 without getting a yellow card (per Fotmob). He is without doubt one of the best closers English football has ever seen.

So while he has spent this season firmly on the periphery, he can still be incredibly useful, and when we look down the shopping list that Liverpool's recruitment team has to consider, we still might not see a permanent No. 6 brought in this summer, so selling Endo would be a high-risk move.

If he plays, then all he needs to do is perform to his usual standards and it would be unlikely if he was sold without a back-up coming in. Gravenberch is his superior, but we can't have a DM without an understudy.
