Arne Slot's ARROGANCE will inevitably lead to disaster

Liverpool have certain leaders in the squad, but not one should be considered to be undroppable.

Of course, when the squad blueprints are considered, it's clear that players like Virgil Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are extremely difficult to replace if Arne Slot wants to change things up, but there's still jeopardy. Accepting constructive criticism is essential if the Reds are to grow as a team.

With eight losses coming in our last 11 matches, it's clear that something has to change, and there are a number of issues in need of attention that are currently going under the radar. It's a problem.

Individual errors from players have contributed to our downfall, but a significant amount of blame needs to go to Slot and his arrogant attitude to selection. Favouritism shouldn't be overlooked.

Konate can do no wrong in Slot's eyes

In his press conference after the 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, the Dutchman noted that Joe Gomez hadn't trained much this week, and the decision to bring Hugo Ekitike on for Ibrahima Konate was made to get the team back into the game with a goal. It was a bold call to make.

Why it was that Gomez had struggled in training isn't something that's been divulged. The 28-year-old wasn't selected for international duty, so it's difficult to know how the fitness issue occurred.

Nonetheless, if we take Slot words on face value, it's a fair reason why Gomez wasn't involved.

The deeper-lying problem, however, is that Gomez has been left on the bench in 11 of the 18 matches he's been available for this season. Across the seven appearances, he's recorded just 254 minutes.

Since new signing Giovanni Leoni has been injured since Liverpool's seventh game of the season which came against Southampton in the Carabao Cup, it's wild knowing that Gomez is playing so little, in spite of him now being the only available centre-back cover for either Van Dijk or Konate.

The Englishman has been troubled with injuries across his career, and he's rarely available for selection, but this season has been slightly different. It appears as though Slot is ignoring him.

Konate's form has been exceptionally disappointing so far this season, and the catalogue of errors goes up every week. And yet, he's played 1416 minutes in 17 games, regardless of his lack of form.

And what's quite a disturbing undertone is that the Frenchman isn't even guaranteed to be here next season, because his contract runs out in the summer. Negotiations have been taking place to extend his deal, but according to Football Insider, he's now rejected three of Richard Hughes' offers.

In just less than six weeks, the defender will have the opportunity to sign a pre-agreement with another club, confirming his impending departure from Merseyside. Relying so much on a player whose future is unconfirmed is a disaster waiting to happen. And, this is all while the Reds' great servant in Gomez is still contracted until 2027.

Of course, Konate is the best available partner for Van Dijk, so it's only right that he plays most of the games, but when you've got depth available and the starters aren't performing, you've got to react.

Gomez could, and should, have played more games, yet he's being ignored. This arrogant approach from Slot is going to be a problem. If Konate leaves, then you're having to call on a player who's been hung out to dry all season, and it's not implausible that Gomez might also leave in the summer.

With a year left on his deal when the season ends, the defender could look to new horizons for a more advanced role, where his game time is more guaranteed, seeing out his career in style. For now, this is all theoretical, but relying solely on Konate this season is both unwise and reckless.
