Alisson Becker ready to make Liverpool contract U-turn

It’s been claimed in recent days that Alisson Becker will remain at Anfield.

The Liverpool goalkeeper has been with the Reds since 2018 - winning all there is to win in the club game. Alisson, 33, has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world throughout that time.

And sporting director Richard Hughes saw fit to trigger a one-year extension in his contract only a few months ago. The Brazilian is now due to remain on Merseyside until 2027 - with his previous deal expiring this summer.

That new deal was not enough to dissuade Juventus from making an approach however - with Luciano Spalletti offering Alisson a three-year deal in Turin.

And although Alisson was reported to be intrigued by the prospect of a reunion with his former Roma coach Spalletti it has been decided he will stick with Liverpool.

Owing to the exits of other senior players - like Ibrahima Konate, Andy Robertson and Mohamed Salah - there is a clear sense that Liverpool want to prioritise keeping Alisson’s experience on board.

According to a report in ESPN Brasil the goalkeeper is now even weighing up the prospect of an extension BEYOND 2027.

“The goalkeeper's plan is to fulfill the final year of his contract and, throughout the season, he will evaluate whether he will remain with the Reds or leave on a free transfer in the middle of next year,” the report reads.

This of course will be bad news in the eyes of Giorgi Mamardashvili. The Georgian was signed in 2024 as the prospective successor for Alisson with Richard Hughes paying an initial £24m to Valencia for his services.

The 25-year-old has had his chances this season due to Alisson’s various injury troubles but hasn’t looked altogether convincing.

If Champions League and double-Premier League winner Alisson decides to remain beyond 2027 then Mamardashvili will have little choice other than to look for a new club.
