Liverpool bombshell: Incredible FSG truth comes out

FSG have publicly stated what everyone at Liverpool suspected. It's a bombshell and one that could hold ramifications for the future.

FSG bought Liverpool back in 2010 and no matter what you think of them as owners, there's no question that it's been a positive period for the club. Was that largely because they hired Jurgen Klopp in 2015? Probably.

But the important thing is that they took a club on the brink of going out of business, revitalised it, stabilised it, and now Liverpool are back where they belong. The real question, then, is how much longer will it go on?

FSG have always had more than Liverpool to consider. They own multiple US sports teams, primarily the Boston Red Sox, with whom they truly started their sporting empire.

There's long been debate and discussion over what the true crown jewel of that empire is, with down periods for either team leading to accusations that they're taking a backseat to the other. How true has that even been? It's hard to say.

But we do actually have something of an answer now. We just didn't think it would come after another massive summer spend at Anfield.

FSG on their priority

FSG CEO Sam Kennedy was part of a press conference this week where he discussed the priority of the company. Now, this is notable as Kennedy is also the CEO of the Boston Red Sox.

And in his mind, there's no real question what the priority of FSG actually is. Kennedy was asked if, with things as they are right now, the Red Sox are the priority for FSG.

"I would," he said. "The Red Sox, for 25 years, have been at the heartbeat of Fenway Sports Group. And all of us who are involved every day don't take that responsibility lightly."

Kennedy then went on to talk about the bright future for the Red Sox, with no mention of Liverpool. Not that we'd entirely expect him to mention the Reds, admittedly.

But the confidence with which he said the Red Sox are the priority? It's a strange one. Liverpool are, without question, the biggest entity as one of the biggest and most recognisable football clubs on the planet.

It seems, however, that FSG are putting more focus on their baseball team. Does that hint at the future? We imagine it does. There's little question, in fact, that this shows where their mindset is going forward.

And that's Liverpool taking a secondary role within FSG.
