This was going to be Nunez's moment, getting the nod to start from the off in a strong Liverpool line-up. But none of that happened for the forward.

Instead, Nunez missed several opportunities and was bullied at times by League Two defenders, failing to make a mark and being overshadowed by Liverpool's youngsters.

Most notably, one 18-year-old.

Why Jayden Danns is now one step closer to replacing Darwin Nunez

Danns came on for the last 18 minutes of the game replacing Rio Ngumoha, who had a thoroughly impressive debut.

Immediately as the 18-year-old came on, Danns made an impact. His constant pressing and energy rejuvenated a Liverpool side who looked a little sluggish for most of the early parts of the second-half.

Then came Danns' moment as Federico Chiesa's one vs one effort against the keeper was saved, the youngster pounced on the rebound and struck home.

Despite not even starting a game for Liverpool, that was Danns' third goal for the first team.

In 100 minutes, just over a full game of football, Danns has three goals in a Liverpool shirt. That's an average of a goal every 33.33 minutes.

Those are incredible numbers and at this stage Danns will be asking himself what he must do to get more minutes in a red shirt.

Certainly, this goal should have taken Slot a step closer to replacing Nunez. It's obvious Danns is hungry, and he is ready to make an impact in the first team.

With the Uruguayan struggling so much on the pitch, Danns taking the limelight, there is a natural solution here for the Dutchman. It's time Nunez's minutes are gradually given to Danns and the Liverpool flop is phased out of the first team.

Accrington Stanley might have been the final nail in the coffin for Nunez and the first step to making Danns his heir.
