Injury could trigger IMMEDIATE Liverpool transfer

Liverpool's injury list has been never-ending this season.

Going into the 2025-26 campaign, most fans could tell that Arne Slot didn't have enough depth among his ranks for an entire season.

The fact that the Reds thought four centre-backs would be enough cover is baffling, especially after Giovanni Leoni ended up being ruled out for the term due to an ACL tear.

Their defence has been ravaged by injuries with Conor Bradley the latest player to be names on Slot's injury list.

Bradley's season-ender has caused questions to be raised about potential transfer targets and now, it seems like one thing needs to happen at Anfield for FSG to consider adding another player to the Reds' ranks.

As mentioned, the performances of Liverpool's defence have been questionable to say the least.

Players such as Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and even Milos Kerkez have all massively underperformed.

This has put Slot's first-team squad into a couple of dodgy situations over the last couple of months and now, fans are demanding that they add some extra talent to their team.

However, it's been made clear that the Reds won't enter the market for a short term solution, that is, unless one thing happens.

While speaking to Sports Mole, journalist David Lynch gave his thoughts on Liverpool's January transfer window plans and shared what he thinks will need to happen for Liverpool to add a new player to their ranks.

“The reality is that it’s not expected [a new signing],” Lynch said.

“I don’t expect it, nobody at Liverpool expects it at the moment and maybe it’ll take another long-term injury to happen between now and January.

“Your hope is that, if that is to happen, if Joe Gomez does sustain a muscle injury that’s going to keep him out for a couple of months, Liverpool fans almost need to pray that, if it’s going to happen, then it happens in January rather than February.

“And then, maybe Liverpool would react if it were to happen in January.”

Joe Gomez has half a season to prove his worth to Liverpool

There's no hiding from the fact that Joe Gomez is a talented player.

The centre-back was often one of the first names on Jurgen Klopp's team sheet at the start of his Liverpool career with injuries often being the only thing to hold him back.

When he goes injury-free for an extended period of time, he often gets a run in the team and manages to prove his worth.

However, while Bradley is out of action for the next few months, there's quite literally never been a better time for him to show he has what it takes to be a regular starter for Slot.

He's likely to be Liverpool's main cover for right-back and centre-back over the next few months, and, if he can remain injury free, he could be in line to earn a starting place for Liverpool next season, especially if Konate doesn't extend his contract.

If not, then some serious questions will need to be asked about the Englishman and Liverpool's transfer decisions.
