One truly elite African star is essentially guaranteeing a Liverpool transfer. A must-sign player for the Reds.

Liverpool need a midfielder and there’s no getting around that at this point. It’s something we were talking about last season and it genuinely felt impossible that they wouldn’t sign someone in the summer.

Even if not a defensive midfielder, then someone who knew how to control the game in possession. Instead, Liverpool signed no one and went into this campaign with fewer senior options than they had under Arne Slot.

Curtis Jones left, one of the best controlling midfielders available, and was never replaced. Now we’re here in this situation where Liverpool can’t control games in midfield and their results largely come down to chance.

The need for someone who can plug the middle of the pitch and stop counter-attacks is higher than ever. Such a player wouldn’t just help with defending but also assure a licence for getting forward to other midfielders.

It’s a win/win, in other words.

Lamine Camara is the one

The Athletic is simply the latest to make the claim: Liverpool have their eyes locked on Lamine Camara. He'd have arrived in the summer if another midfielder had left, and Ben Jacobs claims that there has been contact over a potential move in 2027.

Now, we're massive fans of Camara and feel he was up there with the very best last season. Liverpool' interest in him makes complete sense and we're thrilled he's on the agenda.

But what he's doing this season simply guarantees it all. Liverpool were already interested? Well, his current form eliminates any remaining doubts and solidifies Camara as the one.

His defensive work this season has been phenomenal, after all. Camara boasts a quite incredible 24 tackles over his four Ligue 1 matches. For comparison, if you combined the tackles made by Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai this season, you'd still be seven short of Camara's total.

And that's perhaps being unfair on Mac Allister - he's got more than his team teammates combined.

To top this off, Camara has won 41 duels this season and passed at a success rate of 92 per cent. Once again, Liverpool's combined midfield output for duels is 36. None of them come within 4 per cent of that pass success rate, either.

The Senegal star is the answer for the Reds. He's a midfielder who can control a midfield, play alongside virtually anyone and his consistency is currently off the charts.

Liverpool were already keen. This form simply guarantees a move.
