Bad news as Liverpool face imminent threat over Rio Ngumoha
These are crucial hours for Liverpool’s hopes of renewing Rio Ngumoha’s contract.
Now 18 the England winger has been eligible for a long-term deal since his birthday in August. Despite an agreement being considered somewhat of a formality the new deal for now remains unsigned.
Ngumoha signed a deal until 2028 upon turning 17 last year - giving the 2024/25 Premier League champions some breathing space in negotiations.
The club would dearly love for that date to be extended - particularly given Rio’s extraordinary start to the season.
Bayern Munich coming back for Ngumoha
Ngumoha has taken his game to new levels under Andoni Iraola - a ball-carrying menace who can create chances for himself and others at will.
He has been earmarked as a long-term centrepiece for this Liverpool attack - but in order for that to come to pass the Anfield decision-makers need to get a renewal over the line.
All the while the Merseysiders are facing down threats from elsewhere. Bayern Munich tried to sign Ngumoha in a surprise summer deal but the endeavour got the short shrift from inside Anfield.
Arsenal - too - are thought to be keen with the Premier League holders stalking Ngumoha’s contract situation from the outside.
Bid imminent from Bayern, claims Di Marzio
It now looks as though Liverpool are facing an IMMINENT threat for Ngumoha with the news from Gianluca Di Marzio that Bayern are going to try again.
It’s been reported elsewhere that the German champions would put £60m on the table for Ngumoha and Di Marzio claims that January could see another bid slid across the desk of sporting director Julian Ward.
"It's true that Bayern Munich want Rio Ngumoha, and it's true that Liverpool want to extend his contract – so it's a difficult situation because anything is possible,” Di Marzio said to Wettfruende.
“Liverpool are pushing to extend his contract and keep him in the team in the future, but it's also true that Bayern Munich will try to sign him as early as January.”
Ngumoha is stalling over a new deal - with Di Marzio claiming that an accord remains a long way off.
"I think it's not a very high probability, but a good one that he will extend his contract, as he enjoys his time at Liverpool and has a good relationship with the manager; therefore, it's hard to imagine Liverpool letting him go,” he writes.
"FC Bayern Munich is pushing for it, and Arsenal is also interested."
