Incredible, 3 fantastic stars now picking between Liverpool and Chelsea
Liverpool and Chelsea are set to do battle in the transfer market. Not just one but three stars are set to pick between the two.
The nature of elite clubs right now means you'll battle against them for virtually every player. After all, stockpiling talent is the order of the day - even if it's entirely unclear whether that actually works.
Clubs are signing elite stars that they don't necessarily need, just on the chance that they might end up better than what they've already got. It feels like a massive waste of money, really, but maybe that's why I'm not a sporting director.
But to be fair, sometimes the needs of top clubs simply align. That's certainly the case with Chelsea and Liverpool, both of whom saw similar problems crop up in the summer without clear solutions.
Midfield is the obvious area. Both Liverpool and Chelsea sold key midfielders (Curtis Jones and Enzo Fernandez) without replacements. It's a situation that pits the two of them against one another as they chase signings to fill the gaps.
Liverpool vs Chelsea but in the transfer market
There are two main midfielders on the market right now who quite clearly interest both Liverpool and Chelsea. The most obvious is Lamine Camara, who is expected to leave AS Monaco in 2027.
Of course, he was expected to leave in 2026 and Chelsea thought they had a deal all but done at the deadline. Camara and Monaco backed out last minute, however, and now Football Insider is one of many outlets reporting that Liverpool have stolen a march in the race.
But Chelsea may have pivoted. Alex Scott appears to be at the top of their agenda, another player that Liverpool are strongly considering.
Reports such as from the Daily Mail suggest that the green light is there for both clubs. In fact, Bournemouth actively want both to bid to force the price up - but it’s thought that Chelsea have this one won.
It’s not just in midfield that the two are battling, either. DSports claims that the Reds and the Blues are at the front of the queue to sign El Hadji Malick Diouf from Brentford. A player who only actually moved there from West Ham United in the summer.
Both Liverpool and Chelsea could use a left-back, especially at Anfield where Kostas Tsimikas almost certainly leaves next year. But once again, they’ll need to face the Blues if they’re to get the one they want.
