Liverpool might be on the verge of uncovering their next midfield star - and it will be sensational.

With Richard Hughes expected to dip into the market this summer, it’s becoming increasingly clear that the Reds are going to be in the market for a midfielder.

Part of the urgency comes from the uncertainty around current options.

alks over new deals for Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai have been dragging on for months without much progress.

Both are under contract until 2027/28, but while there’s optimism Szoboszlai will eventually sign, Mac Allister’s situation feels far less certain.

That’s not helped by interest from elsewhere. Manchester United and Real Madrid are both keeping tabs on Mac Allister, and there will be a multitude of other clubs looking to make their move.

Then there’s Curtis Jones, who’s heading into the final year of his deal and with interest heating up around him, there's a strong possibility Liverpool could look to cash in.

So, Liverpool are likely going to be looking at finding a replacement for potentially both Jones and Mac Allister.

Right now, Liverpool’s midfield just isn’t bringing the intensity it needs. Alexis Mac Allister has never relied on pace, but this season he looks a step slower than usual, which only makes things more difficult.

Because of that, he’s struggling to cover the ground required in Liverpool’s system, and it’s starting to show. Opponents have begun targeting that area, finding it easier to play through midfield and open the team up.

In an ideal world, Liverpool would bring in someone like Elliot Anderson, a left-sided midfielder who, on paper, looks like a great fit to inject more energy and balance into the middle.

However, that move doesn’t seem particularly realistic. There’s a growing belief among those close to the situation that Anderson is heading toward Manchester City, with Nottingham Forest expected to sell.

Even if Liverpool were interested, Richard Hughes has to be mindful of the bigger picture. Replacing Mohamed Salah is already a major priority, and there are also gaps to address at both full-back positions, not to mention the need for another winger.

With so much to juggle, midfield reinforcements have to be carefully balanced against the rest of the squad’s needs.

When you factor everything in, spending somewhere between £80m and £100m on Elliot Anderson just doesn’t seem like the smartest move right now.

Instead, Richard Hughes could turn his attention to Lamine Camara, and it’s not hard to see why. The Monaco midfielder is already on Liverpool’s radar, and his numbers back up the interest.

In Ligue 1, no player is winning back possession more frequently than Camara, averaging an impressive 8.01 recoveries per 90 minutes. On top of that, he’s been covering serious ground in the UEFA Champions League, clocking around 11.36km per game for AS Monaco this season.

That kind of energy and ability to cover space is exactly what Liverpool’s midfield has been missing. It’s the sort of profile the club has been searching for, and the fact scouts are tracking him suggests there’s real belief behind the scenes.

There’s also his age to consider. At just 22, Camara already has a strong level of experience, which makes him even more appealing from a long-term perspective.

Liverpool have chased similar profiles before, including Moises Caicedo, Martin Zubimendi, and Aurelien Tchouameni - and it's why they will do everything to not miss out on Camara.

The African superstar who has already won the African Cup of Nations despite his tender age, is the next big thing and he will be Liverpool's new midfield star.

This summer just feels like the time for him to move on and the time for him to join Liverpool.
