Great news, Liverpool hopes 'high' on unbelievably talented midfielder

Liverpool have high hopes that an unbelievable talent will be in their midfield this season. He could be a superstar.

Liverpool’s midfield is in a strange spot right now. They haven’t lost anyone, yet, but there’s still a sense that they need more.

Last season they struggled to control games and that really came from the middle of the pitch. Liverpool lack midfielders who can win the ball back, nor are they particularly good at dictating the tempo of games.

But then, that’s what you get when just about every midfield option was signed as an attacking midfielder at their previous clubs. Things are imbalanced and Liverpool really do need some new ideas in there.

However, the money isn’t there. Liverpool also need to spend big on a forward to replace Mohamed Salah and given no one has vacated a spot in midfield, it’s difficult to justify a big move.

It’s why the club have put high hopes on a player already at Liverpool. The Athletic reports that those hopes are on Trey Nyoni, who has been around the first-team setup for a few years now without every really getting a proper opportunity.

Reports at the time made it ‘clear’ that Arne Slot was a fan and he certainly kept the teenager around. However, Nyoni barely played and it honestly feels like he wasted quite a lot of his development time sitting on the sidelines over the last couple of years.

The midfielder didn’t get any minutes in the Premier League across 2024/25 but was supposed to play a proper role last season. That turned out to be a mere six appearances, however.

And not six productive appearances, either. Nyoni’s Premier League minutes combined for twenty-four across an entire season. It’s not enough and needs correcting.

Liverpool, though, retain hope that Nyoni can still kick on and play a solid role. Andoni Iraola has certainly shown more in his career when it comes to developing youth than Slot ever did - and perhaps that’s the big key here.
