Fabrizio Romano confirms Premier League rivals make Liverpool star their top transfer priority
Liverpool are gearing themselves up for complete changes across their ranks this summer.
Even though the Reds spent a lot of money at the start of last season, it wasn't quite enough to make them Premier League title challengers.
In fact, they hardly ever got out of second gear and ended up finishing in fifth place.
This led to fans falling out of love with their team for the first time in a while and resulted in them demanding Arne Slot to be axed.
Fortunately, they got what they wanted and, now, Andoni Iraola is the man in charge.
However, the Spaniard isn't going to be the only change that Liverpool will make this summer with many exits and arrivals expected at Anfield.
Cody Gakpo is Tottenham's number one choice for wingers this summer
Like most clubs across the globe, Liverpool are looking to add some extra firepower to their attack.
The Anfield outfit have just lost Mohamed Salah on a free transfer and look likely to lose Federico Chiesa at some point in the future.
Indeed, they did just bring Victor Munoz in but, to replace the Egyptian King, they're going to need a bit more than just one winger.
Several players have already been linked with an Anfield switch but, in order for the Reds to make these deals possible, some of their own will have to be sold on.
That's where Cody Gakpo comes in. The attacker was miles off his best last term but that hasn't stopped certain clubs from trying to make a move.
And now, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed where the Dutchman sits on Tottenham's priority list this summer.
"Don’t forget what I told you recently, Savinho is a top target for Tottenham," he said via his YouTube channel.
"And then they have another player that they really appreciate, which is Cody Gakpo from Liverpool. But in this case it will depend on what happens at Liverpool because, at the moment, doors for an exit are not open.
"But Tottenham keep thinking of Savinho and keep thinking of Cody Gakpo after reshaping their midfield with Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali."
Liverpool should consider letting Cody Gakpo exit Anfield this summer
As mentioned, Gakpo was nowhere near his best during the 2025-26 season.
Granted, the attacker probably wasn't helped by the fact that Slot refused to use him in his preferred role but, a player of his quality should've been able to adapt much better than he did.
During the 2026 World Cup it did feel like he'd rolled it back a couple of years but, with how poor he was throughout most of the season, it's a massive risk for Liverpool to keep him around.
And, since he's already 27 years old it feels highly unlikely that he'll get any better than he already is.
So, the fact that Spurs are willing to offer around £60 million for the Dutchman is a tad mental.
It also feels like Liverpool need to take this opportunity with both hands and run with it because, if he has another terrible season, they could be stuck paying out his wage each week while he's just dropping in value.
Of course, Liverpool would need to have a replacement lined up for him but, with Munoz and Rio Ngumoha already among their ranks, the Reds don't really have all that much to worry about on the left.
These are all just rumours at the moment of course but, if they get a decent offer for the Dutchman, it's something Liverpool should seriously consider.
