Fabrizio Romano has revealed that David Alaba has reached a verbal agreement to join Real Madrid in the summer window once he leaves Bayern Munich and that Liverpool will struggle to get him, in an exclusive with Anfield Watch.

The Reds have had it tough with injuries to defensive players this season and that has led to speculation that the club would sign a new defender in the near future.

However, it appears that Alaba, despite Liverpool trying, is unlikely to head to Anfield barring a dramatic late twist in events.

Telling Anfield Watch exclusively, Romano revealed the latest on Alaba:

"He has a verbal agreement with Real Madrid.

"It's not signed yet, though, so, because he's going to be a free agent, until the contract is signed everything is open but he has a verbal agreement with Real Madrid and I think it would be difficult to change this situation because it's his dream to play for Real Madrid.

"His salary is ready for the next four years and Real Madrid are convinced they are going to sign him so let's see if anyone can change that.

"Liverpool made an important bid for David Alaba so let's see if he'll change his mind but I think it'll be difficult for English clubs to get him.

"With a free agent anything can happen but he has a verbal agreement with Real Madrid so it'll be really difficult."

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

It certainly seems as though Alaba will be heading to Spain once he leaves Bayern in the summer.

The Austrian international is a fine footballer and one that would grace many top sides in Europe, hence so many clubs have been linked with him.

Indeed, Liverpool were obviously keen to get him to come to Anfield but it looks as though they are going to lose out to the men from La Liga this time around.
