Liverpool's 2025-26 season hasn't quite gone to plan.

The Anfield outfit were expected to be one of the strongest teams in the Premier League this term but unfortunately, they've been miles off the pace.

Players such as Ibrahima Konate and Alexander Isak have failed to live up to expectations and with the number of injuries they've suffered, things just seem to be going from bad to worse.

Conor Bradley is Liverpool's most recent injury and while this is bad news for the Anfield outfit, it could actually work in the favour of one of his teammates.

Joe Gomez could end up making England's World Cup squad if he stays fit

Even though he's only 28 years old, Joe Gomez has become part of the furniture at Liverpool.

In fact, there have even been times when the Englishman has been seen as one of the best centre-backs at the club.

However, due to the sheer number of injuries he's suffered, his performances have taken a massive hit with Arne Slot barely trusting him.

But, since Bradley is now likely to be side-lined for an extended period after the injury he sustained against Arsenal, now could be Gomez's time to shine.

Indeed, the Reds do have Jeremie Frimpong, Dominik Szoboszlai and even Curtis Jones who can be used at right-back but, since the Reds' need to shore their defence up massively, Gomez feels like the obvious choice to plug the gap.

Szoboszlai and Frimpong could both do decent jobs if called upon but, on the face of things, Slot would be silly to not give the Englishman a run out, especially with the 2026 World Cup just around the corner.

If Joe Gomez plays well for Liverpool he could be in line for a call up to England's World Cup squad

Gomez making England's World Cup squad wasn't even in the mind of most people when the 2025-26 season kicked off.

However, since he's manage to keep fit and is now likely to be used a lot more often, this could be his time to shine.

The centre-back has been described as an "exceptional" player on more than one occasion with his true colours even shining through at some points this term.

If Slot does choose to trust the 28-year-old and he plays well, Thomas Tuchel could end up considering him for the 2026 World Cup.

And, the fact that he can play anywhere across the back four massively plays in his favour.

Of course, Bradley's injury is the last thing that anyone would have wanted at Liverpool but, for Gomez, it could be exactly what he needed to prove his worth.
