Erling Haaland to Liverpool could really be happening

As Liverpool prepare for their toughest challenge yet this season, the focus around Sunday’s match remains mostly on off-pitch matters.

The Anfield clash will see Manchester City take to the pitch for the first time since they were found guilty of almost all the charges levied against them by the Premier League.

With an appeal pending it isn’t yet clear what punishment awaits the 10-time league winners, but the Reds will be hoping to rub salt in the wounds on Sunday afternoon.

Understandably, many are eagerly awaiting what promises to be a high-quality contest on the pitch, but talk has already started swirling about the future of City’s biggest stars.

Erling Haaland faces uncertain Manchester City future

As news of City’s verdict broke, discussions over what may become of their star-studded team took over.

With potential relegation lingering in the background, some of the club’s biggest stars including Erling Haaland are reportedly eyeing the exit door.

According to Spanish journalist Juan Jesus, the Norwegian’s agent has begun discussing a potential exit with several top clubs across Europe.

Barcelona and Bayern Munich have reportedly been sent exact figures including salary demands and the required transfer fee for Haaland, whilst Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on the situation.

Liverpool are not one of the clubs named by Jesus, but the update does mention that a number of other top clubs are interested.

After seeing how the 26-year-old has performed since arriving in England it would be a shock for Liverpool to not even try and bring him to Anfield.

The Reds have a long-standing interest in Haaland, who was reportedly a target for the Anfield recruitment team before his move to Manchester, and a sizeable punishment for City could be exactly what it takes to get the striker to Merseyside.

Jesus’ update suggests that the striker could be on the move either this summer or the summer of 2028, so the Reds would have plenty of time to negotiate a potential deal.

Haaland swapping Manchester for Merseyside isn’t the likeliest outcome, but it is certainly looking more of a possibility.
