Deal on, African superstar is ready to join Liverpool
An exciting African superstar is now ready to join Liverpool.
Julian Ward is now starting to settle into his role as the club's new sporting director. It's a job that he is no stranger to. Not only has he assisted his predecessor, Richard Hughes for the last two years but he has also been here before.
When Michael Edwards first left the club, Ward was the one to come in and replace him.
During the year Ward spent in charge of Liverpool, the Reds brought in the likes of Luis Diaz and looked on course to have another exciting new era.
Ward laid the groundwork for the Reds to sign Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. Two players who have since become integral for the success of the club.
Ward's January transfer plans revealed
As always, Liverpool prefer to keep their powder dry in the winter market. Usually there right players are never available in January.
Clubs are reluctant to sell their best players mid-season. It's why the Reds will only act if a long-term target becomes available.
In terms of the priorities for Andoni Iraola's side, Liverpool will be in the market for a full-back - especially someone who can play as a right-back and they will also want to bring in a more defensive minded midfielder.
Lamine Camara is someone who has long been on the club's radar and having come close to a departure from Monaco on the final day of the summer window, he could become available for Liverpool in January.
He is the name to keep a close eye on. But he isn't the only one.
Yankuba Minteh is now ready to join Liverpool
Liverpool came close to bringing the Gambian attacker to Anfield during the last few weeks of the summer window.
In the end, Liverpool were deterred by Brighton's asking price for an injured player. Minteh suffered an injury in pre-season back in July and it was uncertain when he would be able to return from his injury.
It's why Liverpool opted to keep Cody Gakpo and have four left-wingers in the squad before looking at the market in January again.
The other motivation for Liverpool not to pursue a move is because they believed they could get Minteh for cheaper in future windows.
Well, the deal now looks to be back on. Minteh returned from his injury this week playing against Manchester City in the League Cup.
It means he is fit and now ready to join Liverpool in January again.
