AC Milan want deal for long-serving Liverpool star

Liverpool are facing a shakeup of their central defensive options over the next few transfer windows.

There is a big contract issue to solve with Ibrahima Konate first of all. The French international is now entitled to speak to potentially interested overseas clubs about a free transfer next summer with his contract expiring in summer 2026.

If no deal can be agreed with sporting director Richard Hughes then the 26-year-old will be leaving at the end of the season.

AC Milan come forward with interest in Joe Gomez

Then there’s other senior options Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.

Van Dijk, 34, is out of contract in 2027 and sooner or later the Anfield club are going to have to replace their inspirational captain. In Gomez’s case it would be a surprise if he were to see out his deal - which is also due to expire in summer 2027.

Liverpool have listened to offers for the England international in recent windows but the club’s longest-serving player has lasted the course thus far.

In order to avoid losing him on a free however a decision could be taken on his future. Links have re-emerged with Italian giants AC Milan - with Tutto Mercato Web now claiming that manager Max Allegri is pushing hard to sign the 28-year-old.

Allegri wants Joe Gomez

"AC Milan’s transfer business is gathering pace, with strengthening the back line the club’s top priority,” the report reads.

“While Massimiliano Allegri is pushing for proven, ready-made options such as Federico Gatti of Juventus FC or Joe Gomez from Liverpool FC, the Rossoneri hierarchy are also exploring international avenues to add height and defensive solidity.”

The report goes on to mention that Milan’s decision-makers are looking into a deal for Morato - Nottingham Forest’s 24-year-old stopper.

It’s not the first time Gomez has been linked with the Rossoneri. The defender was reportedly close to agreeing a move to San Siro last summer.

He ultimately stayed put - coming into the first-team reckoning in recent weeks as a makeshift right-back before being struck down with injury.
