50-goal Liverpool sensation opens door to Anfield exit

Liverpool's 2025-26 season will be one that they want to forget as soon as possible.

The Anfield outfit failed to retain their Premier League title and ended up finishing fifth in the league.

This resulted in Arne Slot being sacked and led fans to believe that another major rebuild was on the way to L4.

And, before the transfer window opened, that's certainly how things felt like they were headed, many different players were being linked with Liverpool moves but, now that we're over a month into the window, only one player has been signed this summer.

Indeed, two new players have joined but, since Jeremy Jacquet's deal was agreed in January, he can't be classed as a new summer signing.

Liverpool's lack of activity in the transfer market has led fans to question how well their club are actually going to do this summer and whether they'll even have what it takes to go up against their fellow title rivals to try and top the Premier League.

And, since the Reds are a sell-to-buy club, it's still unclear which of their players may have to be moved on, however, one of Andoni Iraola's men may have just made that decision a tad easier for Liverpool.

If Cody Gakpo leaves Liverpool, he wants to stay in one of Europe's top five leagues

Cody Gakpo was one of Liverpool's worst-performers last term.

The attacker only scored seven Premier League goals despite being played as the Reds' main left-winger throughout most of the campaign.

Most people expected the Dutchman to thrive without Luis Diaz challenging him for a starting role but, in reality, he was a fraction of his former self with some Liverpool fans even wanting him gone.

Of course, at the moment he's still a Liverpool player but that hasn't stopped other clubs from showing an interest in him.

And now, according to an update from Fanatik, Fenerbahce have made an offer to the Dutchman with the attacker also sharing where he sees his future heading.

"Fenerbahçe, having recently added Mason Greenwood to their squad, shows no signs of stopping in the transfer market," they wrote.

"The Yellow-Blues have now targeted Cody Gakpo from Liverpool. The Dutch star has given his response to the club. Here are the details.

"However, in the first meeting held he stated that if he leaves, he wants to continue his career in one of Europe's five major leagues. Nevertheless, Fenerbahçe will continue to monitor the player's situation."

Liverpool's defence and attack are the two main areas among their ranks that need upgrading this summer.

Neither of them performed to the standards expected last term which has led to many rumours emerging about Liverpool's transfer market.

And, even though Liverpool could do with an upgrade on Gakpo, that doesn't mean that they should sell him.

That is, especially if they don't have a replacement lined up for him.

The Dutchman is a Premier League-proven attacker who has scored 50-goals for Liverpool throughout his Anfield stay and, since he has a contract until 2030, Liverpool should be able to demand a rather hefty fee for the attacker should he get moved on.

There are obviously plenty of other left-wingers on the market for Liverpool to sign so, selling Gakpo might not be the end of the world but, keeping Rio Ngumoha happy could become a bit of a problem.

The 17-year-old was one of the Reds' most inspired players during the second half of the 2025-26 season, so, signing a new left-winger might make him a tad upset.

However, if Liverpool get a good deal for Gakpo and think that they can improve their ranks by having his replacement already lined up, they should definitely take a deal.

But, if they're going to be left in the same situation as they find themselves in with Mohamed Salah then realistically, Gakpo should be untouchable.
