They're doing it again, Liverpool submit staggering first bid worth £103m

Liverpool have submitted a huge first offer according to one report.

Richard Hughes has overseen one of the biggest rebuilds the Reds have had in their history, with the club making it clear they are trying to shape a squad for the future rather than just focusing on the here and now.

Liverpool spent heavily in the process too. Hughes broke the club’s transfer record twice, bringing in major names like Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak.

Those signings sent a strong message that the club still wants to compete at the very top and is willing to back the project financially. Never has FSG given such a backing to the club in one window before.

But even with all that spending, Liverpool are still very much a work in progress.

The team has shown flashes of quality, but performances have been inconsistent as the new players settle in and everyone adapts to different ideas and systems.

That probably should not come as much of a surprise though.

A lot of the players Liverpool targeted are young talents with huge potential rather than ready-made stars expected to instantly transform the side. Hughes’ approach has clearly been focused on building something sustainable instead of looking for short-term fixes.

This summer is expected to be a very similar sort of window. Liverpool's departures are very clearly hinting at that. There are yet again more senior departures with the likes of Andy Robertson and Mo Salah leaving the club.

And there will be younger players coming.

Because of that, it is going to take time before the rebuild can really be judged properly. The expectation is that these players will improve over the next few years as they gain experience, develop physically and tactically, and become more comfortable within the team.

Right now, Liverpool are still laying the foundations. Whether Hughes’ rebuild is ultimately successful will depend on how this group develops together over the long term rather than what happens in just one season.

Getting things right this summer is imperative. Never has the pressure been so high for the club's recruitment team. And it remains to be seen whether Hughes can deliver.

But you cannot deny they are no trying to go all out. Especially if the latest report is to believed.

Liverpool have made their priority target Yan Diomande this summer, and it's easy to understand why that choice has been made.

The Ivorian teenager is by far and away the best young right-winger in the market right now and with Mo Salah leaving the Reds need a right-winger who can at least try to fill the void that he leaves behind.

In an ideal scenario Liverpool would be going for Michael Olise to replace Salah. But given how the season has gone, that is unrealistic. Olise will not want to go to Liverpool. Bayern won't want to sell him and Liverpool won't be able to afford him.

It's why Diomande is by far and away the best option for Liverpool, and it looks like they are going all out to get their man.

According to Ekrem Konur writing on X, Liverpool have made a €120m offer to RB Leipzig to secure Diomande. That is worth £103m which is ludicrous money to spend on a player with such little senior experience.

However, Diomande's potential is enormous. And unfortunately the market dictates the value of a player. When there's a scarcity of quality options available, prices will inflate. It's also why Moises Caicedo cost so much when he went to Chelsea.
