The one thing stopping Liverpool from signing €100m superstar
Liverpool proved last summer that they aren’t afraid to break the bank, but the rebuild at Anfield is only just beginning.
The Reds have already agreed a deal that will see one of Europe’s most sought-after defenders, Jeremy Jacquet, move to Anfield in the summer, and plenty of other business is expected.
Several high-profile departures could be on the cards, most notably Mohamed Salah who will enter the final 12 months of his current deal in the summer.
A number of teams are said to be interested in the Egyptian King and plans are being drawn up at Anfield to replace Liverpool’s talisman.
One of the names almost constantly linked with a Merseyside move is RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, but a deal for the Ivorian has seemingly become more complicated.
Liverpool encounter roadblock in Diomande deal
The reigning Premier League champions’ interest in RB Leipzig’s starlet has been well documented, and the feeling is mutual.
Diomande has openly revealed his desire to one day play at Anfield, and for many the deal seemed a foregone conclusion, but it won’t be that simple.
Sacha Tavolieri revealed on Tuesday night that an ongoing dispute between Diomande and his former agency has caused concern for Liverpool.
‘The Reds have been made aware of a valid contract (running until December 2027) between [Diomande] and the agency he left for Roc Nation’, Tavolieri wrote on X.
It was also revealed that DIomade’s image rights are still assigned to his former agency, Maxidel Management, and that Liverpool will not proceed with a deal for the 19-year-old until the issue is resolved.
Will Diomande move to Liverpool?
Although the ongoing dispute with his former agency has reportedly put a hold on proceedings for now, it is entirely possible that Diomande still moves to Merseyside in the summer.
Bild have confirmed the Ivorian’s switch in representation, and doubled down on Friday that RB Leipzig will not budge from their €100 million valuation for the winger.
That price tag will also complicate things for the Reds, making it likely that sales will have to be authorised before a deal for Diomande can be agreed.
Liverpool will almost definitely be able to make that fee up via player sales in the summer though meaning that, if Diomande can resolve the dispute with his representatives, the Ivorian could be the Reds’ Salah replacement.
