Liverpool might have finally found their Joel Matip replacement.

We all miss the Cameroonian international at Anfield. Matip was absolutely adored during his time at the club. He was not only a brilliant defender but he was a great character on and off the pitch.

His amusing antics in the dressing room and the viral videos of his reactions on the pitch made him a popular figure not only among his teammates but also the club's supporters.

We also all loved when during almost every game, he'd get bored and just go on a mazy run beating opposition players for fun.

The only thing we wanted to see less were the injuries which plagued his career throughout his time at Liverpool and probably ultimately cut his time in the game short, having now retired from football.

When fit, Matip was one of the best defenders in the world at certain points of his time at the club. Unfortunately that was rarely the case, especially towards the end of his time at Anfield.

Unfortunately, since Matip left the club, Liverpool are yet to replace him. But that replacement could finally be coming in the form of another Bundesliga defender.

Liverpool have brought in a lot of defensive reinforcements since the summer. It started with Giovanni Leoni and has continued with Mor Talla Ndiaye, Ifeanyi Ndukwe and Jeremy Jacquet.

All of those centre-backs are very young and will represent an exciting future for Liverpool. But the Reds also need a ready-made option given the uncertainty that surrounds the future of Ibrahima Konate.

Not to mention the fact that Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez also have expiring contracts in 2027.

According to Fussball Daten, Liverpool are among a number of clubs looking to sign Edmond Tapsoba. The report claims Liverpool view Tapsoba as the perfect profile for the Premier League and that Bayer Leverkusen could sell him for €55-60 million.

That's not a bad sum for the Burkina Faso defender who comes with a lot of experience. He's just turned 27-years-old and he is in the prime of his career.

With over 255 games under his belt for Leverkusen, there is an impressive data set behind him.

This season he has been a leader at the back for the German side, and he has been leading the Bundesliga with his defensive numbers.

Predominantly a left-sided defender, Tapsoba can also be deployed on the right-side if he is needed. He's also been on Liverpool's radar for a long time.

According to some Liverpool tried to sign the defender all the way back in 2021.

The most impressive thing about him is that he has that Matip trait we mentioned above. Tapsoba loves to carry the ball forward and he's the best at doing it in the Bundesliga averaging 2.26 progressive runs per 90 minutes - more than any other centre-back in the competition.

It's why he could be the next Matip at Anfield. And it's why Liverpool may finally have found their man to replace the Cameroonian international.
