That's that: Liverpool gifted sensational midfielder for €70m

Liverpool look like they've got a free run to sign one of Europe's top midfielders. Can anyone even stop them from here?

Liverpool need a midfielder. We’ve said that for a while, dating back into last season as their control over the middle of the pitch was pretty weak for a team hoping to compete at the very top of the game.

The Reds lacked - and still lack - either someone to consistently win the ball back or someone to dictate the middle of the pitch. We thought they’d move in the summer but instead sold Curtis Jones, arguably their best at the latter, and didn’t replace him.

The start of the season has shown a real dependence on Trey Nyoni and while he’s clearly a huge talent, he’s also a teenager. We’re not sure Liverpool will want to be relying on him come the business end of the season, honestly, as we do think they’ll have a look at the market in January.

However, they won’t be signing Alex Scott. Ben Jacobs has outlined that Chelsea are in a very, very strong position to sign the player from Bournemouth, even securing a verbal agreement.

That does have a counter-effect, though. And it’s one that should see Liverpool land a different signing.

Lamine Camara looks destined for Liverpool

Lamine Camara has been heavily linked with Liverpool for a while now. Ever since the last few weeks of the summer transfer window, really. Camara was ‘supposed’ to join Chelsea but AS Monaco pulled out of a deal at the deadline as they felt they could secure a bigger fee in 2027.

Liverpool reportedly alerted them that they’d pay the asking price next year. Their rivals remained Chelsea but it now appears at the Blues are out of the running.

That essentially leaves Liverpool as far and away the leaders for Camara and he’s fully expected to move somewhere next year. It would now be a massive surprise, quite honestly, if that wasn’t Anfield.

We’d be hugely in favour of that as Camara ticks many of the boxes Liverpool are after. The Senegal star has started the Ligue 1 season in magnificent form, too, and looks like a player who may have stepped up another level after having already shone brightly last year.

If Camara is indeed destined for Liverpool, and we imagine he is, then they’re getting a fantastic player. No question about that.
