Terrible update: Liverpool suffer second major injury

That's two major injuries in two days for Liverpool. A terrible chain of events for Andoni Iraola.

Liverpool suffered their first major injury of the international break with news that Alexander Isak is leaving the Sweden camp early. He's rejoining LFC to rehabilitate as we wait on news of the severity.

But given this is an extended break with Sweden's final fixture two weeks away, there's clearly a fear that Isak needs time off. Or at least that there's potentially a semi-long-term injury there.

Time will tell on that one. Now attention turns to another injury, suffered on Sunday evening.

Cody Gakpo forced off with injury

Cody Gakpo started for the Netherlands at Serbia on Sunday. He only lasted 15 minutes, however, after a poor tackle by Sasa Lukic left him hurt.

Gakpo was dribbling in midfield when Lucic went to ground and went in hard. Gakpo requested to come off shortly afterwards, bringing concern to Liverpool.

Of course, we can't be sure just yet what type of injury this is or how bad it is. All we know is that it's a blow as Gakpo, given the form he's in, will not have wanted to leave the pitch as he looks to establish himself under new boss Xavi Hernandez.

The winger has arguably been Liverpool's best player this season and this is essentially the last thing they need. Gakpo has found incredible momentum, the kind that moves a player up a level and can carry a team.

Now we'll have to wait and see what happens. Any long-term problem here could be catastrophic for Liverpool and Andoni Iraola as they attempt to find a system that works.

So we'll cross our fingers that it's simply just a precautionary move by Gakpo.
