Aston Villa could make a move for Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer.

The Birmingham Mail has reported that the Englishman would like to leave Anfield.

With that being the case, Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard is considering making a bid for Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The Birmingham Mail reported the following: ‘Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is reportedly ‘desperate’ to leave Anfield this summer.

‘Reports claim that the 28-year-old wants a transfer from Liverpool this summer amid interest from the likes of Manchester United and Aston Villa. That’s after Reds boss Jurgen Klopp only handed Oxlade-Chamberlain nine Premier League starts last season’.

Oxlade-Chamberlain's contract does not expire until the summer of 2023. He possesses a current market value of £16.20 million.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Liverpool signed Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal for a transfer fee of £34.20 million back in the summer of 2017.

The 28-year-old has had some good moments at Anfield. We will never forget his long-range strike against Manchester City in the 2018 Champions League quarter-finals.

However, Oxlade-Chamberlain has been inconsistent during his time as a Red. Injuries have certainly not helped the 28-year-old.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has scored 17 goals and registered 15 assists in 133 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.

Also, the midfielder hardly played for the Reds last season despite being fit for the entire campaign.

Therefore, we believe that Oxlade-Chamberlain would benefit from a move away from Anfield. He is only 28 years of age, so his career is far from finished.

Aston Villa are a good club. If Oxlade-Chamberlain is presented with an opportunity to move to Villa Park, we suggest that he takes it.

But, only time will tell where his long-term future lies. All we will say is that it's not with Liverpool.
