Saudi club prepare ludicrously small offer for yet another Liverpool star

Al Hilal of the Saudi Pro League are prepared to put up €50m (£42m) to sign Liverpool's Luis Diaz.

That is the report of Portuguese outlet Record, who claim that Diaz is in the crosshairs of Al Hilal because of their manager Jorge Jesus, who is an admirer the Colombian.

Jesus and Diaz crossed paths in the Portuguese league, with the former managing Benfica in 2020/21 while the latter was at Porto.

Even Record concede this transfer is unlikely to happen. Liverpool paid around £50m (add-ons included) to sign Diaz just a year and a half ago, while his contract runs until 2027.

The winger has scored 11 times in 47 appearances for Liverpool, and was named the man of the match in the FA Cup final win over Chelsea in 2022. However, fans have yet to enjoy a full uninterrupted season of the 26-year-old, with a knee injury disrupting his 2022/23 campaign.

While it is likely Al Hilal would attempt to throw untold wealth at Diaz — Jordan Henderson has reportedly been offered a contract worth £700k a week by Al Ettifaq – Liverpool are not interested in coming to the table, with Diaz part of Jurgen Klopp's plans.

Riyadh-based Al Hilal are one of the PIF-backed Saudi clubs and have already signed Kalidou Koulibaly, Ruben Neves and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic so far this summer.

Though Diaz is unlikely to leave Liverpool for the Middle East (at that price), deals for Fabinho (Al Ittihad) and Henderson (Al Ettifaq) now appear inevitable.

Fabinho was left out of Liverpool's pre-season trip to Germany with a £40m deal close to completion, while Henderson is widely expected to be allowed to move once the Reds receive an acceptable transfer bid.
