Rio Ngumoha needs one Liverpool legend to remain at the club but his wish almost certainly won't be granted.

Rio Ngumoha continues to make waves at Liverpool. The teenager has properly broken into the first-team setup now, featuring in their last three Premier league fixtures, as well as their latest in the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League.

It's something we've hoped for all season, really. Ngumoha made a bright start but then disappeared once Liverpool's form dropped. Now there's a sense that hi skill set is exactly what this team needs to find some form.

But he's still so young. Ngumoha only turned 17 in August and that's a problem - he's a player who will make mistakes and won't handle pressure quite as well as some.

It's why it's important that Liverpool hold onto one of their legends this summer. Even if the chances of that are slim.

Ngumoha made history earlier this season on 25 August 2025, when he became Liverpool’s youngest-ever goalscorer. Coming off the bench against Newcastle United, he scored a 100th-minute winner at the age of 16 years and 361 days. This goal also made him the fourth-youngest scorer in Premier League history. Following this impact, he signed his first professional contract with the club on 25 September 2025, a three-year deal that keeps him at Anfield until June 2028.

The 17-year-old winger has become a frequent "impact sub" this season, making 17 appearances across all competitions. Robertson played the full 90 minutes against Qarabag, too, with Ngumoha getting 23 minutes as a substitute.

Having such an experienced player behind Ngumoha is only going to help him. Someone to offer support, who knows where wingers should be, and who's completely adept at covering for mistakes.

You couldn't ask for a better option than Robertson. However, his contract expires this summer and we don't expect he'll get a new one. Not when he nearly joined Tottenham Hotspur in January.

And with Ngumoha on the verge of something special, letting Robertson go feels like a mistake.
