Richard Hughes set to agree enormous Liverpool upgrade for FREE

Transfer windows are often assessed in a few different ways. Fans often look at who made the best signing in terms of how they improve the side and whether the club got value for money.

Liverpool might well have met both of those criteria in two different deals. It's been a wild summer.

Of course, each teams' needs are different and Arsenal fans will have been desperate for a striker this summer, so regardless of what you think of Viktor Gyokeres, he fills a massive hole in their side.

But on the other metrics, it appears as though Liverpool's transfers have been the most impressive; despite his £116m fee which smashed the club's records, convincing Florian Wirtz to join was huge.

Although purely in terms of getting the most for your money, the Reds are about to outdo ourselves.

Enormous FREE upgrade is on the brink of move

Alexis Mac Allister's move for £35m in 2023 felt like it was never going to be beaten. He was 24 at the time and had recently played a pivotal role in helping Argentina to win the World Cup. For a player of his talent, it was a joke that we could snatch him up that cheaply, albeit using his release clause.

But we've now gone one better. Jarell Quansah's move to Leverkusen for up to £35m is key here.

The Englishman had struggled to make a positive impact on the pitch when he was brought onto the pitch last season and while we could've persevered with him, Arne Slot preferred to move him on.

Alongside Malick Tilman from PSV, Quansah's move from Leverkusen was a record transfer fee for an arrival for the German club. Securing that much for a struggling player with potential was insane.

And now we come to how Liverpool plan on utilising the pure profit they secured on losing Quansah.

Marc Guehi. A 26-year-old, senior England centre-back, who is Crystal Palace's current captain, now favoured for a move to Liverpool before the transfer window ends, in a deal worth up to £35m.

This is according to Paul Joyce at The Times, with David Ornstein at The Athletic also following the developments closely. Serious negotiations were announced on Tuesday and we're closing in.

In not trying to disrespect Quansah, this is perhaps the biggest upgrade I've seen on a player in a long time and the business hasn't cost Liverpool a penny. They'll essentially pay for themselves.

Guehi is in the prime of his career, has been proving himself in the Premier League over the last four years, playing to an extremely high level, and the leadership experience he will bring to the defence makes him an ideal candidate to perhaps take over from Virgil Van Dijk as captain in a few years.

The Dutchman is now 34 years old and it's no longer possible to go into a season without having some element of cover for him. The Eagles' centre-back is top of the list of ideal new recruits.

He addresses both the here and now, while still being young enough to help over the next decade.

Quansah has a buy-back clause of €60m (£52m) and in a few years, the Reds may consider paying it as he'll be a far more complete player by that time. For now, however, a platform needed to be built in order to Liverpool to keep themselves afloat this season. Guehi is the perfect solution for our needs.
