Real Madrid could solve Liverpool's midfielder contract crisis
Liverpool have got some contract issues to resolve in midfield.
Their most immediate priority would appear to be sorting out a new deal for Ryan Gravenberch. The 23-year-old - signed in 2023 from Bayern Munich - is out of contract in 2028.
And according to recent reports he has been moved up the queue for a renewal by sporting director Richard Hughes. Currently earning around £150k per week, the Dutchman will require a significant pay rise in order to sign new terms.
Then there’s Dominik Szoboszlai. He also signed in 2023 - on a deal until 2028 - and after a standout season he will be well aware of his worth in contract talks.
Curtis Jones however is expiring sooner than those two - with the homegrown talent’s terms running out in summer 2027.
The 24-year-old is making much less money than his midfield cohorts - and deserves a big bump in any talks to reflect his growing importance to the team.
Alexis Mac Allister in demand at Real Madrid
And what about Alexis Mac Allister?
The Argentina World Cup winner hasn’t been at his best over the last year or so - suffering injuries towards the end of last season and is yet to recover his rhythm.
The 27-year-old has been rotated out of the lineup on occasion by Arne Slot - who is still searching for the No10’s best form. His contract also expires in 2028 - and given his importance to the Premier League title win he too will require a pay rise.
But is there a guarantee he can recover his best form? Liverpool may be taking a risk in tying down Mac Allister - given the cost and the fact that he is no longer at his consistent best.
Real Madrid considering Mac Allister bid
A bid from Real Madrid may tempt Richard Hughes into doing business - with Macca now reported to be back on the menu at the Bernabeu.
Mac Allister is one of FIVE midfield names mentioned by Diario AS as being of interest ot Xabi Alonso’s side. The others are Vitinha, Enzo Fernandez, Adam Wharton and Kees Smit.
Smit of AZ is said to be above the others in the transfer pecking order and an asking price of €60m is mentioned. Mac Allister meanwhile is in the other category of players - deemed prohibitively expensive by the higher-ups in the Spanish capital.
Liverpool could cash in on Mac Allister
Madrid are still counting the cost of losing both Toni Kroos and Luka Modric - requiring a midfield metronome in the shape of Mac Allister to get their team going again.
With the South American now under consideration once again by Madrid it could be an opportunity to cash in while Mac Allister’s value remains high.
Investing a sizeable fee into another midfield signing may well be a good idea in order to help overhaul the club’s options in that sector.
And his wages could be spread across the other midfielders who are also due a renewal.
Liverpool have essentially got two options for Mac Allister - either renew him or else give him up if the right bid is made. It’s over to Madrid to see if they can tempt Liverpool into a deal.
