Real Madrid are back in for yet another Liverpool star. This would be their biggest move yet.

Real Madrid have made a real habit of moving for out-of-contract Liverpool stars across the last few years. Much to the Reds' massive misfortune.

Honestly, it's not entirely clear why Liverpool are such a target for Los Blancos. Trent Alexander-Arnold went there on a free transfer in 2025, despite it being unclear whether they'd even use him.

Ibrahima Konate has followed in 2026. That was on the back of a pretty disappointing season from the Frenchman - though, virtually everyone at Anfield was disappointing last season.

Perhaps the logic is sound, though. Sign the centre-back Alexander-Arnold thrived playing alongside and you might get the best out of both of them.

But now they want to take it further than that.

Mundo Deportivo report that Real Madrid want Virgil van Dijk. The Liverpool captain's contract expires at the end of the season and it's unknown whether a new one is in the offing.

And so Real Madrid feel they could snap up another defender from Anfield here. It would mean potentially have three quarters of Liverpool's 2025 title-winning defence and raises questions about why they didn't move for Andy Robertson this year.

Competition will be there for Van Dijk, without question. He's one of the finest defenders to ever play the game and still performs at a world-beating level - his experience is unmatched and he can play for any side, essentially.

Real Madrid will fancy their chances, as they always do, but this is a player who hasn't ever really made any push to leave Liverpool. We're not sure he's even been seriously linked away, even during his contract talks two years ago.

Regardless, we're back in familiar surroundings. Van Dijk's contract is coming up, Real Madrid want a Liverpool defender, and massive decisions must be made.
