£7m agreement is simply outrageous from Liverpool
One £7m move would be simply outrageous from Liverpool.
Things haven't gone quite as smoothly in the transfer window for Liverpool as many supporters expected. If anything, it's been a slower and more frustrating summer than most Reds had anticipated.
It's still early days, and there's plenty of time for the club to turn things around, but the contrast with last summer is striking. Around this stage of the window, Liverpool had already moved decisively to secure the signings of Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez, while also making significant progress in their pursuits of Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak.
There was a real sense of momentum. Every week seemed to bring another major development, and supporters naturally expected the club to attack this summer's market with the same intent.
Instead, Liverpool's pursuit of Yan Diomande appears to have taken an unexpected turn. Reports now suggest the highly-rated Ivorian favours a move to Paris Saint-Germain, leaving Liverpool looking elsewhere for one of Europe's brightest young attacking talents.
Perhaps it's time to accept that the club is entering a genuine transition phase. Diomande was never viewed as a ready-made superstar capable of transforming Liverpool overnight, but he represented exactly the type of high-ceiling signing the recruitment team has built its reputation on.
The problem is that the market offers very few right-wingers with the potential to eventually succeed Mohamed Salah. Elite left-footed attackers who can operate from the right, score goals consistently and carry the creative burden are incredibly rare.
Diomande looked like one of those rare opportunities. If Liverpool do miss out on his signature, the recruitment team will need to identify another long-term solution because replacing Salah has always been one of the club's biggest challenges.
The search now continues, and Liverpool simply have to get the next move right.
Right now it's also an inflated market. We are seeing the likes of Elliot Anderson signing for Manchester City for £116m, simply outrageous prices.
So many homegrown players are being valued at a lot higher. Bournemouth are asking for £80m for Alex Scott. He's a great player but £80m is excessive.
Liverpool have to look outside the Premier League market in order to find the right players. That much is becoming very clear.
Victor Munoz was a great example of this. However, it's also important for Liverpool to protect what they have.
The Reds don't have a lot of homegrown players but there are a few. Rio Ngumoha is arguably the most talented. Curtis Jones has also been a great servant for the club, and then there is the brilliant Trey Nyoni.
Nyoni is someone who is very underappreciated. He should have got a lot more minutes under Arne Slot last season when the likes of Alexis Mac Allister were underperforming.
But for some reason, he never quite got his chances, even though every time he came on he was brilliant. When given the chance Nyoni showed what an excellent midfielder he could become.
In this volatile market, where homegrown and club-trained players are so valuable, Nyoni is a precious asset Liverpool need to harness and let him flourish.
He is someone who could either be a £50-60m player in the future or someone who could become the next great midfielder in Liverpool's starting line-up.
It's why the latest report from Swansea Independent is so surprising. They claim Liverpool would be open to selling Nyoni for just £7m this summer on a permanent deal.
£7m! That would be an outrageous decision and as much as missing out on Diomande was disappointing, selling Nyoni for practically pennies in this market would be even more disappointing.
