There is a very real chance Liverpool will find themselves looking for a new first-choice goalkeeper this summer.

Links between Alisson Becker and Juventus only seem to be getting stronger, with the 33-year-old reportedly readying himself for a new challenge.

The Brazilian is currently out injured and it has fallen on Giorgi Mamardashvili and Freddie Woodman to deputise for him.

Both have been satisfactory, but the drop-off between first-choice and back-up is clear and if Alisson does leave this summer then a new no.1 will need to be signed.

Luckily for Liverpool, an excellent option has just been placed on the transfer list and the Reds should make their move.

Liverpool’s next no.1 just became available

If Alisson does leave Anfield, a whole host of options will likely be considered – including promoting Mamardashvili to first-choice.

Some have suggested that bringing back Caoimhin Kelleher could be the best option for Liverpool, but now a potential target has been placed on the transfer list.

That ‘keeper is Alexander Nubel, who is currently on loan at Stuttgart from Bayern Munich, and will be available this summer.

That’s according to transfer expert Florian Plettenberg, who claims that the German shot stopper has no future in Munich and will leave the club in the coming months.

Nubel has enjoyed a great season for Stuttgart, helping them qualify for the Champions League, and would be an excellent option for Liverpool.

The 29-year-old is under contract with the Bundesliga champions until 2030, but is only valued at €14.4 million (~£12.35m) by FootballTransfers, meaning he could be a great value pick up.

Although he has missed a few games through injury this season, Nubel has historically held a very good injury record and would be excellent competition for Mamardashvili at Anfield next season.

Richard Hughes should be taking note of Nubel’s availability and, if Alisson is moved on, the German should be brought in this summer.
