Trent Alexander-Arnold admits Liverpool MISTAKE
Liverpool fans were left reeling by Trent Alexander-Arnold's decision to leave last summer.
A Liverpool player for 20 years, the right-back used the opportunity of an expiring contract to negotiate a deal with Real Madrid.
Although Los Blancos anticipated signing the now-27-year-old on a free transfer, sporting director Richard Hughes managed to get £10m out of the Spaniards.
That's because Alexander-Arnold was needed for the FIFA Club World Cup - meaning Madrid had to pay up in order to get him out of his contract a month early.
Trent's World Cup dream in tatters
It was supposed to be a dream move for the England international - but injury meant he missed the Club World Cup semi-final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
That absence had alarm bells ringing in Madrid - as they expected to sign a right-back who wouldn't miss games through injury.
And things got worse from there. Xabi Alonso started the LaLiga season with Trent in the lineup but he soon lost his place to the returning Dani Carvajal.
Injury struck yet again for the defender - and he has arguably slipped behind Federico Valderde in the right-back reckoning even with Carvajal injured again.
Trent and Liverpool both struggling
Trent's World Cup dreams now lie in tatters with Jarell Quansah passing him in Thomas Tuchel's England right-back pecking order.
Meanwhile Liverpool are struggling.
Arne Slot has been unable to get a right-back to perform anywhere close to the standard of Trent with Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong out injured.
Indeed it appears this transfer is regrettable from all sides - and now a report in Spain suggests Trent thinks so too.
Alexander-Arnold regrets Madrid move
According to a report in El Nacional, the former Liverpool star believes he made a mistake in swapping Merseyside for the Bernabeu in summer 2025.
"Alexander-Arnold feels that he was much happier and in a much better place before making the move to sign for Madrid," a report reads.
"He revolutionized the right-back position at Liverpool and it seems that Real Madrid are not quite understanding his unique and special qualities.
"Alexander-Arnold begins to think and to be very clear that his decision to change Anfield for the Bernabéu was not the best of all. Now he is a player in discussion, with many doubts and whose place is not guaranteed at all.
"In fact, he has been surpassed by a Fede Valverde , who was neither born playing as a full-back nor does he want to do so.
"This is the situation of an Arnold who already regrets the decision he made last summer."
Alexander-Arnold is under contract at Madrid until 2031 - signing a bumper contract including a sizeable signing on fee.
Even if he wanted to get out now it is unlikely any buying team could afford the fee and wages.
It's a sorry situation for Trent - who is learning the hard way that he should never have left.
