Liverpool are expected to be in the mix when transfer talks for a winger get under way in January.

The Reds spent big in the summer, but not all of the squad issues were addressed - believe it or not.

A formal replacement for Luis Diaz never came through the door and a major opportunity to sign Marc Guehi at Crystal Palace was squandered - the late approach left them no time to replace him.

Of course, the Reds ought to focus on getting the best out of their latest £450m splurge of recruits, and there's a lot of talent that's not currently being utilised, that Arne Slot is desperate to unleash.

But some of the issues are more connected to the personnel that Liverpool don't have, so adding a few more extra dynamics into the team could be just what the Reds need to kickstart their season.

Yildiz talks expected for the 'New Year'

According to Football Insider, the Reds' title rivals Arsenal are assessing a move for Kenan Yildiz at Juventus, following an update that will be music to Liverpool's ears, as we're also looking at him.

In their report, it is said that the Turkish international's contract talks with The Old Lady are 'stalling', which is set to lead to 'a real race to snap him up in the new year', despite his deal running until 2029.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, Pete O'Rourke said: "They'll [the interest clubs] be right across this situation with Yildiz and his contract situation at Juventus if no deal can be agreed with the Italian giants. I'm sure Arsenal will be ready to make a move for the highly rated attacking player as well. He's regarded as one of the hottest young properties in European football.

"He's done so well for Juventus that he's come onto the radar of a number of top clubs, the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Real Madrid have all been credited with an interest in Yildiz."

The other clubs interested in the electric 20-year-old winger are Chelsea and Manchester United, following their unsuccessful bids made in the summer. With six goals and five assists in 18 games, alongside the outstanding performances he's delivering for his country, it's understandable that almost every big club in Europe is considering an approach.

Like former Liverpool star Diaz, he's unpredictable, favouring to run at opposition full-backs, taking on his man and making things happen from nothing. We're screaming out for a profile like his.

It must be said that a winger shouldn't really be the priority for the Reds, when you consider how leaky the defence has been this season, but there's been a lot of speculation over a move for Antoine Semenyo in recent weeks and so it isws- possible that Liverpool could sign a new attacker.

As such, there's plenty to assess before any decisions are made.
