Talks are also said to be advancing for Milos Kerkez, whose transfer from Bournemouth will likely be facilitated by the Cherries' former sporting director Richard Hughes, who now resides at Liverpool.

But the name on everyone's lips at the moment is Florian Wirtz, one of the best playmakers in world football right now, and the Reds are reportedly firmly in the race to sign the world class 22-year-old.

Liverpool to be offered price reduction in Wirtz negotiations

According to DaveOCKOP, the Reds have might be able to sign the German No.10 for a bargain fee.

The latest report claims: "Leverkusen has reportedly set an asking price in the region of €150m (£126m) for Bayern Munich, while potentially accepting a slightly reduced figure of around €100m (£84m) from clubs outside Germany."

This would give the club a huge advantage, although Manchester City would also receive the boost.

However, this information about a potential deal comes after Kicker's update which claims that Liverpool have submitted a preliminary offer for Wirtz, although the details of the approach are unknown.

The German website's intel claims: "Finally, the preparatory work of the creative artist has been completed... with Manchester City, Liverpool FC and Bayern Munich, three clubs have submitted concrete applications.

"The international and his parents, who act as his advisors, have exchanged views with the management of all three clubs... now Wirtz, who has not yet extended his contract, which runs until 2027, has to decide. This has still not happened."

As such, it is at least plausible to suggest that Liverpool could hold the advantage in negotiations.

Just a couple of weeks ago, Liverpool were nowhere near the negotiating table, and yet the club is now right in the thick of it, posing a direct threat to Manchester City and Bayern Munich.

The Reds' interest in Wirtz has been long-standing, and promises of a 'heavyweight summer' are likely to ring true if the budget is substantial enough to sanction a financial outlay nearing £100m.

In Germany, it is not uncommon to see players remain in the Bundesliga, opting to join Munich to almost guarantee themselves silverware moving forward, but a move abroad is reportedly in Wirtz's plans and for Liverpool, much of the groundwork is already in place.

Fans will wear at the prospect of £125m being paid for one player, especially given the other positions that need recruitment this season at Liverpool, but the claim that Wirtz could be available for £84m will be welcomed as it would be a far more manageable sum to het our heads around.

Although it must be mentioned that the likelihood we might receive a £41m price cut is to be doubted.

Nonetheless, the club has shown some intent in negotiations and this is all before the transfer window even officially opens, so there are at least signs to be optimistic this summer.

Word has it that Man City are out. Getting him for 84 million pounds after selling Nunez on for 60-70 million would be brilliant.
