Federico Chiesa can put an end to one Liverpool deal before it's even properly started. It's time to put faith in the Italian.

Liverpool are reportedly looking into a deal for Serge Gnabry. The German winger is out of contract in the summer and increasingly appears to be leaving Bayern Munich.

Juventus supposedly want to sign the player but are put off by the money involved after Liverpool also entered the race. The Reds appear to see real value in Gnabry - and might try to push through a transfer.

That's according to both Gazzetta Dello Sport and Bild. The pair both carry the same line - Juventus and Liverpool are battling for Gnabry and the Reds appear more likely to pay the money.

But should Liverpool actually do that? Surely, Federico Chiesa can put a stop to this?

The Bild report is talking about £17m per year to get Gnabry - staggering amounts for a player who doesn't deliver all that much. And that's not down to his quality but more how often he plays.

Gnabry started just 13 Bundesliga fixtures last season and has never started more than 26 league games in a season. Now, his numbers are actually very solid for a player who isn't on the pitch too often - he averages quite comfortably over a goal or assist every 180 minutes.

But again, he's not available very often. Now, is this not exactly the same situation as with Chiesa?

The real difference is that Chiesa is available, he just doesn't get selected but there's no question that he delivers when actually playing for Liverpool. Swapping him out for a new winger who does remarkably similar things seems crazy at this stage.

And so if Chiesa continues to deliver big moments as he has been, he can end this deal before it's started. We see no real reason to sign Gnabry when just about everyone (Arne Slot excluded) wants to see more of the Italian at Liverpool.
