Following a below-par season that saw Barcelona win La Liga and Arsenal knock out Los Blancos from the Champions League in the quarter-final stage, a rebuild of sorts is being sanctioned.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is set to move from the Reds on a free transfer and Dean Huijsen's move from Bournemouth has already been announced before the Premier League season has ended.

Furthermore, ambitious moves for Alexis Mac Allister and Ibrahima Konate are being rumoured, striking fear into the hearts of Liverpool's executives. The pair are key assets in Arne Slot's project.

But now it is plausible that the Reds could secure one of Madrid's talented players, if he is to be pushed out by the club in favour of a marginally younger alternative.

Nico Williams to Real Madrid - 'a very attractive possibility'

A quick assessment of the best wingers in world football will lead you to the name Nico Williams.

The 22-year-old Spaniard was paramount to his country's European Championship win last summer and the impressions he is making at Athletic Bilbao are causing shockwaves across the continent.

Across this season, he has scored 11 goals and delivered seven assists, an attacking return backed up his efforts during the 2023/24 campaign where he had eight goals and 16 assists.

There are few left-wingers who can claim to be as impressive as him, and MARCA is reporting that his €58m release clause is currently tempting Real Madrid for a possible move this summer.

How he fits into Los Blancos' attacking lineup with Vinicius Jr and Kylian Mbappe is still to be learnt, but one specific caveat to Williams' potential move is that Rodrygo would make way for him.

Liverpool have long been admirers of the Brazilian, although he has always been considered one of the untouchable assets at Madrid. Now, all of a sudden, he could be a genuine market opportunity.

Rodrygo is a slightly different player to Williams, in that he plays more on the right-wing than the left and occasionally he has been used as a hybrid centre-forward. For Liverpool, that isn't a problem, especially since Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz are currently operating down the left-flank.

Furthermore, it's bizarre that Madrid would even consider letting the Brazilian go. Over the last four seasons he has delivered 18, 29, 25 and 23 goal contributions, despite playing inconsistent minutes.

Long-term, he would be the ideal candidate to replace Mohamed Salah in the Reds' squad. He's currently only 24 years old, he has proven that he can perform at the highest level and Liverpool would be foolish to not heavily consider a what a potential deal might look like.

Of course, the main difficulty would be working out the finances. Florian Wirtz seems to have caught the club's attention the most and his £125m asking price will significantly dent this summer's budget.

But if Real Madrid are genuinely looking at selling Rodrygo, then the everything could change in an instant. Transfer openings like that are rare and must be taken advantage of when available.
