Liverpool are hopeful to sign a striker this summer, despite the lack of prominent transfer links.

The focus has so far been on signing players in positions of desperate need, such as left-back and right-back, with Florian Wirtz's likely move being an opportunity that was too good to miss out on.

But we're still in the first month of the summer and the remainder of June, July and August can be spent on looking at other pieces of business that need to be conducted. Time isn't an issue.

Furthermore, in order to bring a striker in, someone will have to make way. The fee Liverpool are hopeful to receive from Darwin Nunez's outgoing transfer will directly help pay for his replacement.

This all needs to take place first, before a new talisman is on the radar, although many targets are involved in negotiations to move elsewhere already, so Liverpool have be conscious of what is already happening in the market, so not all hope is lost for some of the club's main ideal recruits.

A move for Osimhen is not off quite yet

According to United in Focus, which looks at the news and transfer business of Manchester United, Liverpool might still have an opportunity to sign Victor Osimhen this summer.

Graeme Bailey spoke about his intel on the striker and said: "He knows United are an option and he wants to come to England. Chelsea is not an option; however, I am told to not rule out Liverpool."

As such, the Reds are still in the hunt for the Nigerian 26-year-old, which is incredibly positive news.

His world-class ability is well-known, given he scored 37 goals last season on loan from Napoli at Galatasaray and that is exactly the type of prolific striker that Liverpool are after.

The Turkish club have been considering the idea of keeping Osimhen, but he has been assessing his options, with a move to Saudi Arabia having already been declined. In terms of Premier League teams, Liverpool would be the best move he could make and United fans will be aware of this fact.

However, his wage demands seem to be the sticking point for most clubs, and they would be a significant problem for Liverpool to address. The Reds already have one of the highest wage bills in Europe and the impending signing of Florian Wirtz, alongside the contract extensions of Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk, will be causing great concern for the accountants over at Anfield.

In a purely sporting sense, Osimhen rivals the best available on the market. His experience and consistent attacking returns make him a reliable asset and he would solve one of our main issues.

But whether a deal makes financial sense for us is still to be debated. Regardless, the Reds are still in these conversations which suggests that hopes of a new striker or not dead and buried quite yet.
