Game over for four Liverpool stars: Paul Joyce says they could leave
Liverpool are heading for big changes.
It’s been a tough season for Arne Slot and his Premier League champions. The Reds won the title at a canter last year but have been unable to recapture their form this time around.
Following on from a £450m spending spree it was predicted that the Anfield club would improve further and go some way towards reclaiming their top-flight crown.
But it hasn’t worked out like that with big-money signings like Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz flattering to deceive. A major overhaul is necessary in the off-season - with Arne Slot set to stay put as head coach.
Key to getting an improvement in Liverpool’s fortunes will be the upcoming shakeup of the playing squad.
Top talents like Yan Diomande and Sam Beukema are reportedly being targetted with the departures of Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson already confirmed.
Paul Joyce says future of four is uncertain
And to the outbound group could be added as many as FOUR more key players as Slot and Richard Hughes ring in the changes.
That’s according to to trusted reporter Paul Joyce in the Times who suggests that a few current stars are hanging by a shaky nail.
“The futures of a number of players — Alisson, Curtis Jones, Alexis Mac Allister and Ibrahima Konaté to name a few — remain uncertain before the need to strengthen a squad that has been found wanting is taken into consideration,” the report reads.
Alisson Becker, 33, is wanted by Juventus and has been reported to be intrigued about the prospect of a move back to Italy one year before his contract ends.
Jones, meanwhile, is also out of contract in 2027 and if no new deal is agreed then the sporting director could opt to cash in this summer.
No contracts as yet for Mac Allister and Konate
Mac Allister is in a similar situation - with his deal running out in 2028 and no talks yet scheduled over a renewal.
And then there is the strange case of Konate. A couple of weeks ago it was reported that the centre-back was close to agreeing a renewal.
But right now that contract remains unsigned and the French defender is due to leave the club at the end of next month.
We could see a very different Liverpool squad next season as all the signs point to Slot and Richard Hughes dismantling the current group ahead of a mammoth summer rebuild.
