Liverpool will soon need to face up to a harsh reality - Mohamed Salah’s coming to the end of the line.

The Egyptian King, 33, will go down as potentially the greatest player in the club’s modern history but he won’t go on forever.

He will be 35 by the time his current contract ends in 2027 and his extraordinary record in the first two-thirds of last season masked quite a drop off in the Premier League title run-in.

Salah was also posted missing in big-game defeats to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final as well as Paris Saint-Germain over two legs in the Champions League.

Salah again on the fringe of things

This season he’s scored one goal and added one assist in three Premier League outings thus far but he is again on the fringe of things in terms of his general play.

His numbers - overall - aren’t spectacular according to FOTMOB and he can be expected to be out of the team for at least one significant stretch this season.

AFCON will again interrupt Liverpool’s campaign and their top goal-getter could be out for up to 10 matches.

The signing of Jeremie Frimpong should help cover Salah’s absence - but over the next couple of transfer windows Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes will need to think about bringing in a successor.

A bid for Olise cannot be ruled out

There remains the possibility that Liverpool might SELL Salah to one of Saudi Arabia’s biggest clubs next summer - albeit for far less than the mooted £150m that Al-Ittihad offered a couple of summers ago.

Insider Lewis Steele revealed this week two key pieces of information - one that Liverpool’s transfer priority in 2026 would be replacements for both Salah and Virgil van Dijk. The second was that a bid for Michael Olise couldn’t be ruled out.

The Bayern Munich superstar, 23, is now firmly established as one of the best players in Europe but the German champions FEAR losing him next summer.

There has been some uncertainty over whether or not the French playmaker has got a release clause. But this is one transfer fight Liverpool cannot afford to sit out.

Olise should be on top of the list

Olise has been on the radar since his days at Crystal Palace - and has taken his game to new heights since then. He’s already got THREE goals in his first two Bundesliga games of the season - building on 12 goals and 15 assists in the league last season.

His numbers on FOTMOB - for goals, expected assists, passing, touches, dribbles, tackles, recoveries and possessions won in the final third stand up against the best players in his position.

Olise is delivering quality, consistency and a touch of class.

It’s no exaggeration to say he’s now the total package. With Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz proving that Liverpool is the only place to be these days - the Reds should put Olise to the top of the list for 2026 - that’s if he’s not there already.
