MASSIVE Marc Guehi update after crunch Liverpool talks

Liverpool have held talks with Crystal Palace about Marc Guehi. Now Oliver Glasner has dropped an update on his captain.

Liverpool want to sign Marc Guehi this summer - but not for any price. In fact, the Reds feel they should get something of a bargain for the centre-back.

That’s because Guehi is now in the final year of his contract with Crystal Palace. The Eagles’ captain isn’t going to sign a new one, either, meaning they’re now faced with a choice.

Palace could hold onto Guehi for the rest of the season, get what he brings for another year, and then lose him for free. Or they could get something for him now, cashing in on a fantastic player.

Liverpool are the club who will sign Guehi if he leaves Palace this summer. They’re on the brink of finding some sort of deal for the player, but there’s a difference in valuation.

And that’s understandable. Guehi is a very important player for Palace and they’ll almost certainly be worse when he’s gone - there isn’t much time to find a replacement, after all.

Liverpool would like to have Guehi but they don’t necessarily need him for this campaign. Not when they’ve already got four top centre-backs in the squad.

The BBC are one of those reporting that the two clubs held talks about Guehi to try and get a deal done. Now, we can’t be sure what those talks have exactly led to but we do have a major update, courtesy of Oliver Glasner.

Glasner has essentially confirmed a deal isn't particularly close with Liverpool. He's done that by telling journalists on Wednesday that Guehi will play in Palace's Europa Conference League qualifier Fredrikstad on Thursday.

The Palace boss has said the same thing about Eberechi Eze, who is expected to sign for Tottenham Hotspur before long. The Eagles aren't going to let their players leave quickly, then.

Now, it's entirely possible that deals are all but agreed with both clubs here. Palace may just want to make sure they go through after crunch European ties.

That, however, is complete speculation on our part. Liverpool are not signing Guehi as things stand and some sort of deal still needs to be formally agreed.

But as we draw closer to the end of the transfer window, the pressure on Palace to find that agreement will increase. It'll reach fairly intense levels, in fact, and we imagine Liverpool are banking on that.

The Reds are in charge with this one. Let's see if it results in Guehi becoming a Red.
