Liam Rosenior's Chelsea appointment could SPARK £35m Liverpool transfer
Chelsea dispensed with the services of Enzo Maresca on New Year’s Day - replacing him with Liam Rosenior.
The 41-year-old has been well regarded in the early stages of his coaching career through his work with Strasbourg. But it’s no coincidence that he moves to Stamford Bridge from another BlueCo club in the French Ligue 1 side.
And the former Hull City coach is wasting no time in getting his feet under the table in West London - with TEAMtalk now detailing the new head coach’s transfer priorities.
Liverpool could match Chelsea interest in Guehi
Chelsea have endured a torrid time at centre-back this season - with most of their performers in the position struggling for form and consistency.
And Rosenior wants his new club to do a deal for Marc Guehi this January - with Crystal Palace said to be now receptive to bids for their captain over the winter window.
Guehi, 25, has got less than six months to run on his Palace deal - with the FA Cup holders reckoned to be open to business at £35m.
Manchester City’s defensive crisis could well make them a contender for the England international’s signature - but it’s a Chelsea bid that could spur Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes into action.
Liverpool move is top of Guehi's agenda
The Reds were close to adding Guehi to the squad on transfer deadline day but Palace pulled out of the deal at the last minute.
And while the Premier League champions would love Guehi on board as a free transfer they may well be forced to get involved this winter if Chelsea launch an offer.
“That move could also yet spur Liverpool – still very much keen on the player after their summer miss – back into action, and the Merseysiders could look to launch a counter bid of their own,” the report reads.
“Guehi has yet to decide on his future, though we do understand a move to Anfield is still very much at the top of his agenda.”
Liverpool can be encouraged by Guehi’s stance - with the Palace captain having already agreed a move to Anfield once before.
But if Palace sanction a departure then they may have no choice but to conduct a deal this winter instead of holding out and recruiting him on a Bosman.
