Liverpool are close to wrapping up the signing of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth. The 21-year-old is expected to move to Anfield on a long-term deal for a fee of £40m to £45m.

He will become the latest Hungarian player at the club - with Dominik Szoboszlai well-established on Merseyside and Armin Pecsi secured earlier this week.

But with Liverpool already in possession of two senior left-backs, something is going to have to give. There won’t be space for three senior options in the squad and it means Kostas Tsimikas or Andy Robertson will have to go.

EXCLUSIVE: Wonderkid will join Liverpool first team in pre-season

Robbo, 31, dropped a hint after the final game of the season that his spell at the club could be coming to an end. He has won it all since joining from Hull City back in 2017 - but endured a difficult season last term.

Tsimikas came into the reckoning as Robertson’s levels dropped - leading club bosses to the decision to sign a new left-back.

Celtic sign Kieran Tierney

It had been speculated that Robertson could move north of the border to Scottish champions Celtic. A boyhood fan of the Glasgow giants, there was potential for the Liverpool club legend to hook up with his favourite team.

But that option would appear to have been taken off the table as a result of actions in Parkhead this week.

Kieran Tierney departed Arsenal at the end of his contract, inking a new deal with Celtic - who he left back in 2019.

Given the 28-year-old’s quality and sizeable pay packet, it’s unlikely that the two Scotland left-backs will end up in the same team together at Paradise.

So one door closes for Robertson, who could now stay at Anfield until the end of his contract in 2026.

Instead it is more probable that Tsimikas leaves this summer. He is younger than Robertson at 29 and has a contract until 2027. Richard Hughes could achieve more money in the market for the Greek - who has been linked in recent days to Olympiacos.
